The world is irritating me lately.
Rush Limbaugh shouldn't have apologized. Should he have said those things? No. But what he should have said, in leiu of an apology is, Do we know if she's really having a lot of sex? No. We'll never know. So I shouldn't have said what I can't confirm. Or something equally as snarky.
Because really the 30 year old woman who chose to attend a Catholic University went on international television and asked for the school to pay for her birth control so she can continue to have sex without the fear of having a baby.
And yes, bc is also used for hormone therapy. But you know what else is used as hormone therapy? Hormones. They don't give menapausal women birth control they give them hormones. And yes, they give you bc to even out periods. Sure, that's why my entire sophomore high school class was on birth control. Suuuuuuuuurrrrrreee it is. That's what the "nice" girls say.
Come on now. Birth control is exactly that. It controls the female bodies ability to concieve. Hence the Catholic church's moral beef with it. And this isn't a public issue. Publically, most companies do cover birth control as part of their insurance. It's only this religious institution that's being targeted because the White House believes they have moral authority to make them change their policy.
They are wrong.
They can not tell a religion what to believe. They can not force them to use their money to pay for it. I don't care how much they think they are right. They are not.
Birth control is not a human right.
And please. I thought all of that money going to planned parenthood was for prevention, like, oh low cost birth control. And I know they offer it because I know people that got it there for like $5. And name brand stuff too. So what is this really about?
It's about forcing the Catholic church to kneel at the alter of the state.
If there are women out there that insist their contraceptives be covered I suggest they go work for the protestants, who don't have the bc issues. Or, gasp, go get a job at the thousands of other non-religious companies who cover lots and lots of things. Our insurance, for instances, covers IVF. Two rounds. The catholics wouldn't cover that (they abhore it). Are we going to go after them to cover that procedure? What is the line? What should people have to pay for themselves and what should "someone" else have to pay for?
As for Rush ...
Where is the outrage over Maher calling Sarah Palin, Bristol Palin, even baby Trig Palin horrible, horrible names? Where is the outrage over Laura Ingraham being called a slut? And they weren't even talking about needing free birth control. They were just TALKING.
But no one cares. Because they are just conservative women with no soul. So we can mock them and make fun of them and take their donations to our political pacs without blinking an eye. Because some people count and some people don't.
And what the ... Daily Kos is asking Westboro church to boycot the funeral of Andrew Breitbart. Because they are only the enemy because they oppose homosexuality. They don't care one lick that they disrupt military funerals. They don't care about that at all. If they were protesting war at military funerals Daily Kos and others would cheer right along with them.
The world is a sick place run by sick people who have no sense of decency or personal responsibility.

I am very disappointed. While I raised my kids one of the things I told them was that 'Life is not Fair-And then you die'. It is truer now than I think it use to be.
As for a double standard: who cares? When my son tells me that he did something dumb because all the other kids in the class are doing even dumber things, I don't excuse him for his own choices.
If, as I would propose, there is some set form of morality then we should choose to do right and not be upset for punishment for choosing wrong, even if society by and large doesn't believe in the concept of right and wrong.
On contraception: you are absolutely right that the Catholic church's longstanding argument against birth control should be honored by our federal government. Separation of church and state is a two way street, and the government has no right to legislate to the church what to do.
In conclusion, don't call people nasty names. Don't violate the concept of separation of church and state. In any event, Rush looks bad and Obama looks bad.
What irritates me (among other things) is the insertion of the President into this particular debate (calling Ms. Fluke) when he hasn't called anyone else. Seriously. Worse things have been said about just as decent people and I didn't see the President call them in a fit of solidarity.
As for the double standard, I care. And while yes we teach our children to behave no matter what anyone else says or does, it still bothers me to no end that this level of hypocrisy is so common place. And why not hold up a mirror and say "really? look at what you've done?" as well as holding ourselves to higher standards.
Kenda - I was unaware of the HSA requirements. I find that interesting and sad. But do you think they should have to pay for it (whether or not directly or through hsa)? I'm genuinely interested since you are the target audience.
