Rants
I hate efficient light bulbs. Or whatever they are called. The curly, florescent compact bulbs that are all curly. Or, worse, the curly ones trapped inside round glass that looks somewhat better but then you turn it on and the light is still all curly on the inside. And it's still a florescent look. I have them all over my house. I mean the other ones are going to be illegal soon enough so might as well just convert. Plus my husband likes them. So I have this hideous florescent light all over my house and this is brought to mind because of that ridiculous phillips light bulb that just came out that's not a curly cue but is $50 a pop. And probably requires a haz mat crew to dispose of. I hate them. And if you go to a staged or model home, they don't use them. They use incandescents. Because they look better. Sigh.
A friend on facebook is asking whether or not to get a video baby monitor. As with all things baby and kid the world is full of opinions. I mean she did ask, so it's okay. I should just hide the post because it's getting to me. All these women, "don't do it!" Really? You have to be so vehement? Honestly it's not like using lead paint. It won't hurt anyone. It's most certainly a nice to have so if you have something else to do with $75 there may be better ways to spend the money. But I love mine. (Lewis, at this point, would say rock into a pack of dogs). And I'll get another one when we get the bigger house because houses these days have the masters down and the bedrooms up. Which bothers me ever so much and I may end up turning a downstairs office into G's room until such time that I feel comfortable putting him upstairs. Some houses have one bedroom (and an office) down so I may look specifically for that. Anyway point being I can see a use for video monitors when one has to be so far away from where the kids are. And I liked mine and seeing if I really had to go in there. G would wake up screaming the house down and it took me a long time to figure out that his tummy hurt, but that he would get through it, and it would pass quickly. But if I went in there, he'd be awake, and wouldn't fall back asleep easily. If I waited, he'd get through it. But I could watch him on the monitor and see what was happening (and if he was throwing up). I don't know, I see both views I guess. They are silly (nanny cam!) but mine has given peace of mind that I think is important too.
The house is officially on the market. I have to say I expected like, trumpets, or a huge rush on my house, or something. But reality? Nothing. I got a request for a showing on Sunday. But nothing.
In pregnancy news ... I'm ridiculously fat ridiculously earlier. It's absurd. By week 8 everything was tight and I just looked like a woman who enjoyed one too many donuts. Week 8! I blame this on the extra hormones the doc put me on. But when I went and saw her this week I asked her if I'd gained any weight, and she laughed at me for being worried about that already. And I said, Well look at me! And she laughed and said I'd gained three pounds, which isn't bad. I'm not so much complaining, so much as being amazed at how quickly my body just was like, vrrrroooooop, guess I'll get ready, and out came the belly. I mean at 12 weeks my neighbor down the street asked if I was pregnant (yes I know just about all my neighbors). Showing at 12 weeks. Absurd.
In other things that are different this time around, I had morning sickness or nauseau or whatever you want to call it. I never threw up - though I came close. Last time I just had aversions to food and didn't want to eat. This time I had protein cravings and felt like throwing up after I put anything in my mouth. Which was fun. And I could smell everything and it all smelled bad. For valentine's day we went out and the waiter was wearing so much cologne we had to leave because I couldn't eat. At my sister's, I swore she was wearing perfume or something and I couldn't stand it but it was an air freshner. But, rest assured dear It's a girl readers, I believe this was also due to the extra progesterone I was given, and not because of anything really taking place with the baby. I'm also fairly certain it's a boy.

We were at Dennis and Carolyn's and I woke up and all I could smell was strawberry jam and it smelled so, so good. I went in to breakfast and asked for some, and Dennis or Carolyn said, "Oh sorry, we don't have strawberry." And I was like, "But I could smell it all the way in the bedroom." They looked and looked, but no strawberry jam.
Then we started clearing the table and--lo and behold, tucked between some pots where it couldn't be seen--a whole jar of strawberry jam.
Smell is now apparently one of your pregnancy super powers. Thank goodness you don't have co-workers with smelly lunches!
Ugh and I had coworkers that ate some real smelly stuff. I would have died. :)
