Any toddler book you pick up talks all about the fill and dump stage. Actually, any toddler you spend any time with will reveal this particular proclivity to you post haste.
I want a sand box. But I hear they are messy bins of disease and yuck that finds its way into your house via diapers, socks, pockets and small sized hands. So that makes me not want a sand box. But sand boxes are great expenditures of fill and dump energy.
But enter beans, a plastic container from Walmart, three of his toys hidden there-in, and a mixing bowl and some measuring cups. Fill and dump fun.
I would love to tell you that this was hours of toddler entertainment. But there is no such thing. But it did entertain for about twenty minutes. He would drop a measuring cup full of beans into the mixing bowl, and when the bowl hit some limit that his brain thought was "enough" he would dump that contents of the bowl back into the plastic box.
Over and over again.
He would run his hands through the beans. And he'd see pieces of his toys poking through.
And dig them out.
It's about $20 bucks for all the beans (28lbs worth) and the plastic bucket. But when we were done, put the lid on, wash the toys, and put the box away in the garage and we'll get it out again in a few days when it will be "new". It's a good rainy day activity, for the garage. I didn't want to be finding beans all around my house for weeks.
