Quickies
... I bought these soft blocks for G at Christmas last year. They were mostly chew toys until he discovered them again recently and now he stacks them as high as he can and COUNTS! He says "one, two, four." I do not understand this ... at all. But I believe it makes him a Mensa candidate.
... He also walks around saying "oh no" or "wow." Correctly, but over and over again. He also says "yeah" to everything. I appreciate that he has not latched on to the more common (and probably preimminent) "no" and is so positive, but the untrue yes is annoying to. ie - "are you hungry?" "yea" "do you need a new diaper?" "yea" "do you love mommy" "yea" Okay that last one is not so bad. Lewis thinks that he just knows that "yea" is the answer I like best.
... He also can name his farm animals. Horse, cow, chicken, sheep. He can do the noises for all but the first one. Horse is our newest animal as H is our newest sound.
... Started crying when Daddy leaves. So sad. He actually says something like "No! Dada!" And it's very sad. He gives his Daddy kisses regularly. All the time. He's gotten better about giving kisses to mama, but Daddy gets them before bath / bed every night. My kisses are not guarenteed.
... Lots of interest in the alphabet. I blame this one on M and our trip to DC. Every letter is A. I have A B And C artwork hanging in his room and he can say those three if you point to them and say it before him. But if you ask him, they are all A. So I will be changing up those canvases and glueing alphabet cards to them so we can do our letters during diaper changes.
... Which brings me back to the counting. I'm working on 1, 2, 3 but for SOME reason three holds him up. It's that th sound I guess?
... He now sits still for longer books. This is terrific for me as the Sandra Boynton books are so fun and cute BUT OH FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS BABY I'm ready to move on. My friend told me that the rhyming books and cat / hat / mat type books are the ones that help them learn to read first so I need to invest. But it has expanded our horizons now that he remains interested in longer stories. He still loves Green Eggs and Ham and Boy Your Amazing and Llama Llama Red Pajama and Wemberly Worried and the books with his animals in them (Little Blue Truck, Click Clack Moo).
... We took him to see the lights at the square last night (set to music) and he really liked it. He kept saying "Do you see it?" or "wow." He is amazing in his enthusiasm.
... His favorite games are ones he plays with his Dad. And the dog. He loves feeding the dog, teasing the dog, hugging the dog and he's trying to say Mavvy. It sounds A LOT like mama. I am very glad that Mavvy is so resigned, because he is not always gentle.
... He also likes childrens movies that involve dogs or cars. Sesame Street is still our absolute favorite. Which is the only one I record. I'm really trying to limit our television intake. He is learning from SOME of it. I think part of the letter fascination originates from Sesame Street.
... He loves his train. He says choo-choo and connects the magnets and runs them along the floor. He basically destroys the track but he seems to enjoy it. He also loves his cars. He is most definitely a boy.
... When we were in DC, while I was having my "collapse" and E was trying to entertain him, she gave him a glow worm doll and when I finally rejoined the land of the living (it was like 20 minutes guys - relax) G was putting it to his shoulder and patting it's back and trying to put it in the baby's swing. These are all factors that are looked at when looking for warning signs of autism that I could never fully say he did (I guess because I only have the one doll and he RARELY even looks at it). It was really sweet to see him so affectionate. I guess it's the affection and empathy that they are looking for. So check and check.
... Infertility is flipping everywhere. Santa Paws - a flipping kids Christmas movie about DOGS - the main couple just were asked if they had kids and she said "we haven't been blessed with any children." Landminds everywhere people. Even kids Christmas movies about DOGS.
... G has gained weight but his eating still gives me heartburn. He eats like a bird and sometimes not at all and he won't POOP everyday like the doc wanted him to, no matter how much apple juice I give him. I try to console myself that when he does eventually poop it's not rock hard and pitch black (signs of constipation) but for the love of all that is holy and all God's saints in heaven it would be oh so lovely to have him eat heartily and poop regularly. I know, TMI. But it's my blog folks.
... We went to Whole Foods to find healthier snacks for him (sometimes the only thing he will eat) and things with more fiber in them and I tried them this morning for him and he refused. He did try and eat them. But he spit it out. I tried it myself and it tasted like cardboard. I can't say I blame him. We went to the poop reducing yogurt. But he ate it all.
... Whole Foods is a crazy persons paradise. But it's also a gluten free paradise. Which if the eosinophil situation isn't improved on Dec 27th I'm afraid that's the next stop on the get G healthier train.
... Which brings me to my kid isn't sick people. We went out to dinner with good friends on Wednesday night (shout out to my brother the baby sitter) and she was so kind. She said something along the lines of "it's so difficult to make sure these kids are perfectly healthy all the time." Instead of the more common, "so hard to deal with sick kids." HE IS NOT SICK! At least, not really anymore. He hasn't vomitted since before Thanksgiving (Praise God!) He still has this issue? Diagnosis? Condition? I don't know but he is not sick. He plays he learns he walks he enjoys things. He's as normal as any other toddler he just happens to be skinnier and gets to eat whatever he wants most times.
... The airplane push and ride toy is still the best thing I ever bought. It has a shape shorter in the seat (he loves it) and buttons and spinning propellers and buttons! Did I already mention those?
... Thankfully he's shown no interest in dismantling or tampering with our tree.
... I love this time of year because I love getting mail everyday that doesn't include JUNK. Christmas cards/ letters are the best. And I put ribbon on our cabinets and pinned the cards to them (thank you pinterest) and they are very proudly displayed and beautiful. I will scan them all into the computer and make a book of them, perhaps this year. Or they will (more likely) go in the box where all the Christmas cards are and I will look at said box wistfully and think "I need to do something with those some day." But rest assured, folks who spend so much time and money on those cards, I will not ever just throw them away. I don't think.
... G loves all things little people. I don't understand this.
... I think that's enough. Oh his hair is darkening. But like the neighbor said, "it's winter. That's gonna happen." Oh! And I was playing Sims yesterday and I made a Lewis person and a Stacy person and "played with genetics" and they created a G person. Guess what color hair G person had? Yup. BLOND. I like playing Sims because in my Sims games the Stacy character can have as many babies as she wants. And I know the cheat codes to give her twins or triplets.
... I was coping pretty well with everything. And then Thursday I fell apart. I don't understand the emotions I'm feeling and it's very strange. It's probably the most depressed I've been .... ever? I don't know. Today is a good day. We will see about tomorrow, tomorrow. Somedays I have hope and somedays I just don't understand why this happened to me. Why am I infertile? Why are so many wretched people blessed with kids that don't deserve them and me, a person with education, means and so much opportunity to love and care for babies ... why do I struggle? I know that God doesn't give anyone more than they can handle. And I know I've always been stronger than most. But it's just so incredibly unfair. But I know it makes me appreciate everything so much more. And so many people with my issues hate being around babies and I really go the other way. I love being around the babies more. I'm thankful for every birth, every pregnancy announcement. I decided three years ago (after many, many tantrums) that the more good baby wishes I put out into the world, the more those good wishes would come back to me. And I also know, that just because someone says they are pregnant, does not mean it was easy for them. And just because someone only has one child or none, that does not mean they never wanted any. I'm a more sensitive soul because of these issues. And I truly, truly appreciate my kid way more than most parents*. I'm not willing to give away any of these moments or milestones. Not to anyone. I wasn't promised any children, I'm so incredibly blessed that I have such a great son.
*I did not say I love him more. I don't presume that much. Most parents love their children to pieces. Most parents love spending time with their kiddos and laughing with them and playing with them. I would wager a guess and say that 99.9% of parents love all and everything about their kiddos. But my appreciation of G and his specialness in our family means that yes, I'm staying home with him. No, he won't be in fulltime school until it becomes developmentally necessary and no I won't give up my time with him. This time is so special. And I may only get this one crack. I don't think that's how my story will be written. But I don't want to take anything for granted.
... I think that's enough. And now the small person is trying to break into the oven. With the car key. Interesting ...
... He also walks around saying "oh no" or "wow." Correctly, but over and over again. He also says "yeah" to everything. I appreciate that he has not latched on to the more common (and probably preimminent) "no" and is so positive, but the untrue yes is annoying to. ie - "are you hungry?"
