Notes

I'm so tired of the Republican debates.  I don't need to hear from these guys every single week.  I feel like some PR flack told them "it's early and people are fickle, we gotta keep ya'll top of mind."  And they just keep hammering us!  I'm depressed by the field.  The front runner is Newt?  What?  In what world does that make sense?

Anyone worth a damn, anyone that really is philanthropic and views office as public service and serious and worth doing ... I'd imagine they are scared off by the "vetting" process.  Who in the world has a perfect background that could stand up to 15 million google searches?  I'd be totally screwed.  Anyone going forward is going to be in trouble.  People leave electronic footprints everywhere.  Pictures on facebook, on blogs, on social sites I'm too old to know about ... anyone moving forward that runs for office is going to have to be a choir boy or a nun.  We are such an unforgiving, judgemental culture.

Unless you've been picked by the powerful leadership in either party and plucked from obscurity and all records locked and sealed and the press doesn't care that much to dig ... you stand no shot.  Or been raised from infancy to run for office and had a press team your whole life cleaning up your messes.

Now I personally wouldn't get in trouble for drug use, affairs or cheating in law school ... but I've made a habit of posting some oft unpopular opinions online for the better part of 8 years now.  I'm sure they'd make great sound bites.

In sports ... when the Cowboys lose it makes me happy.  This bothers everyone around me.  But I can not stand Jerry Jones or Tony Romo.  Tony Romo is a pretty boy Hollywood type who likes his celebrity and doesn't care too much about football or losses.  A few years ago in a post game interview he even said, "it's just a game."  Sure.  A game you're getting paid millions upon millions to play and to WIN and in the state of Texas football is right up there below church on Sunday for most (and above it for others) so you better not be so cavalier about something so many care so much about.

But the past four years they have just been awful.  Actually, they've been mediocre and overrated.  Tony Romo couldn't rally a hornets nest to follow him.  He has no leadership and commands no respect of his team.  People love playing with Brady, Manning, even Rogers now.  Romo?  Don't hear so many great things about him from anyone other than Garrett and Jason Witten, who I think secretly must be related to him or something.

And when we torched Wade Phillips last year ... that was just sad.  Because Garrett torpedo'd him with bad offensive calls.  And then, oh look! Shocker!, Garrett, Jerry's handpicked favorite, is now head coach.  The offense immediately starts doing better.  Hmmm, interesting.

Now to be fair the past few losses have been primarily STUPID calls (Garrett icing his own kicker, for starters) and last night was just a defensive nightmare.  Defense had made a couple great stops that got brought back because apparently "holding" is illegal in football.  I mean they teach that in pee-wee but maybe it's been so long these pros forgot.

Lewis gets mad at me because I'm mean to them.  But I cheer for winners.  And I get mad at people that make dumb mistakes.  No matter what team they are on.  So my beloved Texas Tech, you made dumb mistakes (ALL YEAR LONG) and I'm mad at you for it.  I watch, I cheer when you do well, but when you mess up I call you on it.  I don't think cheering blindly makes you a better fan.  I think it makes you stupid.  I cheer.  I love them.  I support.  But if you mess up I'm not giving you a pass just because I call myself a fan.

This year I'm loving Aaron Rogers (because he's my FF QB) and Green Bay.  Lewis says "Imagine that, you love the undefeated Packers?"  I know, it's so easy to love winners, isn't it?

But Rogers had to put up with that annoying whiner Farve, and so therefore I think it's awesome that he's putting his money where his mouth is and being awesome two years in a row.

In basketball, Lamar Odom (known meanie player) is coming to Dallas.  Apparently we traded our really good center for him (no clue) but the important information here is ... that him wearing a Mav's jersey means the Kardashians are house hunting in my neighborhood.  Can we all collectively groan?

Other important tidbits ... no one ever won a food battle with a toddler.  No one in this house for sure.  G is talk talk talking.  Almost non stop.  I blame M.  M taught him how to say "hot."  Now anytime he gets in the tub - "hot".  Anytime he puts food in his mouth - "hot."  I can still ask him to say M--- and he says Miiich.  He tries to say almost everything.  Juice, food, game, play, please (peeesse), bath, on and on and on.  The doctor said there would be an "explosion" of communication at his 18 month appointment.  He was right.  G tries to talk all the time.  It's not all clear.  He says bye bye Daddy, where's daddy, and combines words when it comes to daddy.  When he puts a phone to his hear and I ask who is it, he says Dada.  CUTE.  But for the most part his "words" are mostly combined sounds that are not clear to anyone but me really.  But I imagine in the coming weeks that will not be the case.

Oh yeah ... the allergy tests came back.  He's not allergic to any foods.  He's allergic to some wierdo plants (red wood something?) and dog and cat dander.  Neither of those things are causing the throat issues we are having (they are low grade allergies).  Wheat didn't show up at all but I need to research how that translates to Celiac.  We have another appointment with the gastro guy today at one and I'm supposed to bring that up with him.  My general pedi appears to be pushing for a Celiac diagnosis and I'm shaking my head at him.  The way to get a definitive diagnosis at this age is catheterization.  NOPE.  If we were still having problems MAYBE.  But I'm not putting him through that when 1 - I don't think he has that at all and 2 - treatment is working.  No vomit since before Thanksgiving.  That's probably our longest stint without vomit ever.

I get phone calls from actual doctors.  Prior to this if I heard from anyone it was a nurse.  It's strange to hear from actual doctors.  It makes me nervous when they call.  "Mrs. H?  It's Dr. So and So.  We have your results."  It immedately just makes you like, twitchy.  I mean nurses call with normal results, in my experience.  Doctors call when they have to explain something.  I.E. ... to talk about eosinophilic esophagitis the doctor called.  To tell me he wasn't allergic to anything, I talked to a nurse.

Alright long enough and the apples are almost gone.
