How to Wean

My baby.  Not your baby.  I have no idea how to wean your baby.  From anything.  So good luck to you, and Gods speed.  All kids are different.

But my kid.  And bottles.  Specifically bottles.  Everything else that I've weaned him from (nursing, sleep sacks) I just took away.  Sleep sacks I gave back to him as a lovie.  He cuddles them.

Anyway.  The bottles.

I just never upped the "flow".  He was still on slow or medium flow.  Hehe.

Have you ever seen a toddler try to use a slow flow nipple?  It's sort of hillarious.  So then I only used the medium flow.  But it wasn't long (like in the last week) before he was fed up with those.  He'd take a sip, take the bottle out of his mouth and look at it with furrowed brow, shake the bottle a couple times, and then put it back in his mouth.  A few more sucks, and then a whine.  Then he'd push it away in frustration.

I gave him the milk in his sippy cup and ahhh, a happy child, drinking milk at a regular pace.

I probably could have taken the bottle away at 12 months, and he wouldn't have noticed.  He's been easy with change; he'd fuss or complain a few days but I just shrugged and didn't go back (I'm pretty stubborn).  And he moved on.

I just thought the bottle story was funny.  I wish I had his frustration on video.  It was really funny.
