SAHM Thoughts

So I read THIS and came to this paragraph:

The Judgey McJudgersons. These are the jackbags who ask me things like: “What do you do all day?” Do you know what that question really means? It means F* YOU. It means, I’ve just peed up high on this fence-post, so you’ll know I think I’m better than you. Do you know what the equivalent insulting question of horror is for a working mom? Let me lay it on you: “Who takes care of your kids while you work all day?” Feel free to ask a mother either of those questions if you want her to instantly hate you.

I can't speak to the later part, but I can definitely understand the first.  I get asked that all the time, usually followed up with, "I could never do it."

To which I really, really want to say ... Why did you have children, if you don't want to raise them?

But obviously I don't, because I don't know their situation, and people just say things sometimes, and it doesn't make them true.

I don't love every millisecond of staying home.  Every nuance isn't warm baby smells, hugs and laughter. But I do love staying home.  And I wish people that thought I was an affront to feminism everywhere realized that the respect they show to their childcare provider is owed to me, in the very least.

I think it's a lot of "the grass is always greener". I'm not a fan of K's daycare right now (switching officially at the end of the month--yay!), so I do have a bit of envy for people that don't have to make that handoff every morning.

But I would be a very bad mom if I stayed home with him everyday. Like, mentally unhealthy. Not to mention beyond poor.

I sort of get irritated with blanket statements from either side of that debate to tell the truth. It's such an individual, family-by-family decision....there's no one solution for everyone!

Women are hardest on other women. There are pitfalls and issues with both sides. Working moms have more adult time, less kid time, SAHM's have the other issue, and both sides have to walk that balancing act.

Personally I don't think the grass is greener for working moms. I am blessed, blessed, blessed that financially we can do this. I wouldn't change it for anything. Does that mean I love every second or that I don't reserve the right to complain? Obviously not.

There's a whole bunch of "domestic enemies of ..." at that blog linked. They are all hillarious.
