It's a battle of wills wits.  And my 14 month old is wittier than I.  Food gets thrown on the floor.  Food does not get eaten.  He laughs when I say no.  Sometimes he just lets the food sit there and stares at me like I'm trying to poison him.  He shakes his head now.  I don't think he knows it means "no."  But he does it a lot.

I see flashes of temper.  I see frustration when he wants something and I don't figure out what it is.  He currently hates having his diaper changed.  This is oh so pleasant.  Last night I resorted to trying to change it mostly with him sitting up; an attempt to humor him.  Because I have neither the patience nor the conviction to fight that battle every. single. time.

I struggle with making sure he gets all his food groups.  But from what I read / hear from around the changing table, I am not the only mama with this concern.  I try to remind myself that children in Asia survive mostly on rice and they are okay.  If he eats cheerios at every meal for a week he will live to tell the tale.

I'm trying to teach him body parts.  So far, he has pointed to his ear and his head (the top).  But this is just mirror play, I don't feel like he "gets it" just yet.

Essentially, our biggest "issue" right now is behavior correction.  Which is such a stupid, stupid, stupid helicopter mama buzz phrase.  (I know too many of those.)  Don't stand up in the bathtub, don't stand in your chair, don't slam your finger in the door, etc.  There is not a lot I don't let him do, at this point.  I have not locked up my cabinets because I don't want to drill the stupid things in to them and Lewis doesn't like the look of cabinet hardware (to put rubber bands on them - easiest way to baby proof BTW).  I have moved our liquour to a higher cabinet.  Not really so much because he was getting into it, but because I'm trying to get a teenage baby sitter lined up and who wants to risk the temptation.  The biggest cabinet problem is the cleaning products.

He repeats cadence alot now.  Says the words ball, down (as in "down" from his chair), da-da, blue, dog, balloon, bath ... he'll essentially repeat any word that starts with d or b.  And when I say "words" ... I mean I can hear the word, and I know he's trying to say it.  It is by no means crystal clear.  But for instance I'll say, "time for bath?"  And he'll say "ba" and then make the thhhh sound.  They are separate, but I know he's trying to say bath.  But it's just b and d sounds.  Oh well.  I guess it'll be another one of those "when he masters it he'll move on" things.

He's walking a lot better.  But he still can't stand up by himself.  Which blows my mind because from a standing position he bends all the way over and picks something up, then stands back up, but he can't stand from the same position when his feet are on the floor and his palms are flat on the floor.  He'll figure it out.

He's cut the top two front molars.  They look really painful.  The edges are all through the gums but the middles aren't yet.  And the more teeth come in the more the teeth that are already here move together.  The bottom molars look pretty swollen.  I imagine those will come in any day.

It's getting harder and harder to take good pictures of him.  He's just always moving.  And I have grand thoughts of nice outfits and pretty summer time pictures outside but then I go look at the nice outfits and I can't stomach spending the money on something he'll wear once and that isn't comfortable.  We wear walmart tshirts and shorts.  Comfortable for playing ... but not super cute for pictures.  But my frugal nature won't allow me to buy the "nice" clothes.

Alright, that's all I can think of.  And it's almost time to try for a nap.  Wish us luck.
