Growth Chart
I stole this from my friend Emily, who made a similar chart. (Click to enlarge the picture - and forgive the yellowness of the images. I'm playing with lightroom. Gratuitously.)
This entire project cost me $3. Which is how much I had to spend to buy the spaceship at the top and the two frogs at the bottom from hobby lobby. We had a piece of particle board that I had my brother cut in half for me (hence why the cuts not straight) and we had the plane cutouts and I had red spray paint. The rest was done with a sharpee.
You'll notice there's a big heart now about three inches below where Grady's current hash mark is. That's where he was when I measured and the chart was three inches too high. I was never a very patient person. "Measure twice cut once" is lost on me. So the chart has a flaw. Much like it's many flawed creator.
The spaceship Grady picked out himself. We were in the cutout aisle and I was wondering which way to take the thing and he leaned out of the cart and grabbed the spaceship. Now proximity was at play here. It's not like I had him right next to the football or anything. But he "picked it out" and that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
The frogs were added for Grandpa. Someday Grady's going to ask why everything is airplanes and green frogs and I will be able to tell him that one, momma is an AF brat and thinks planes are cool and two, that a long long time ago the family found a motion sensing frog that croaked when someone walked in front of it. It was for Great Grandma and Granddad's rock garden at their house in Wichita. And that silly frog tickled your great grandparents so much, that we started giving them a frog every year. Sometimes they were silly, and sometimes they weren't. Granddad Eichhorn even got them a musical wooden frog from Brazil. So we have frogs around our house as a way to remember Granddad and Grandma, and to keep them with us always.
Next up: a race track / chalk board / magnetic board with the left over particle board, chalk board paint, and strips of magnets from an unused spice rack. Oh yeah. It's going to be epic.
