Adventures in Sewing: Gift for a Baby

I've made three quilts now. This is the third, but the second attempt at a gift for a friend. The first ... didn't fit. I just didn't think it was her style. It was my style, but not hers. So I started a new one.  Using things she registered for as a guide for colors and patterns.  The result is the below.

The quilting part is the hardest.  Followed closely by getting flannel fabric properly lined up and stitched without fraying.  As you can see, the rows line up pretty good.  I am very pleased with that part.  The x's are imperfect, but for a throw for the baby to lay on, throw up on, or to take outside, I think it will do it's job.  And I really like the bright aqua color.  I hope the mama to be does too.

It's approx crib sized, 36 by 60.  I wanted to use 12 x 12 squares for ease of cutting and sewing.  It's got light weight batting in the middle, and I used blanket binding.  Because I can NOT be bothered to make my own bias tape.  I'm short on time (and patience).

It's flawed - VERY - but it's the best I've done so far.  And I am improving.  I have high hopes to make a quilt for Grady one day (another one) and perhaps sheets.  But it gets a little expensive, and I have a hard time justifing paying $6.99 a yard for fabric when I can get a shet of toddler sheets for $6.99 at Target or Walmart.

Every stitch isn't perfect, every cut isn't straight, but it was made in perfect love, and every stitch is a wish and a prayer for the recipient.  I hope mama, daddy and baby like it.
