Mommy Files

Grady is more and more mobile.  My brother in law was here and (meanly) tried to make Grady walk on his own and Grady would stand a few seconds, take some wobbly steps and then lunge forward for mommy.  But, this seems to have helped his confidence level because ever since he's trying all sorts of new movements.  Like today I put him on the center of the floor and he did his weird forward movement thing (He gets up on all fours - feet on the ground like he's getting ready to stand - and then sort of pivots forward?) all the way to the coffee table, where he proceeds to cruise around the living room.

I'm starting to wean.  This is hard.  It is oh so hard on me.  I am attached to this nursing.  I'm attached to the quiet time with Grady, the cuddles.  It is time to start.  He is ready.  And I've only dropped one feeding (3 remain) starting yesterday.  And it makes me sad.  There is a lot of CIO (at nap time) in my house right now and I think it's because of the weaning.  I haven't found a perfect way to give him the cuddle he wants while denying him the feeding.  I will improve.

So with the pedi's approval, we  started whole milk.  And guess what this idiot first time mom did yesterday?  Yeah, fed my kid bad milk.  I suck at life.  I didn't even notice until this morning, when I saw the new bottle of milk, and then thought, if that's the new bottle?  What did I feed my kid?  Digging through the trash, I saw the bad cow date.  BAD MOMMY.

The good news is, he seems okay.  I gave it to him yesterday at 2 and he didn't have any episodes or anything, cross your fingers.  The bad news is, I'm a BAD MOMMY.

Table food is getting a lot better.  He ate tortillas at a restaurant the other day, he eats cut up peaches regularly, and just about any cracker you put in front of him.  Still won't eat cooked vegetables.  Maybe he'll get there?

I think his increased mobility is helping his digestion?  The doctor said that magically they are related, and that his vomitting / reflux issues would improve with more movement.  I still try not to leave the house between 4 - 5:30, because if I do it is a guarentee that Grady will throw up.  At quarter to 5, like clockwork.  Laying back in the car seat he can not stop himself from throwing up.

We have 8 teeth.  The bottom two came in two weeks ago and the back molars are coming in now.  I'd imagine they won't cut for a few more weeks though.  I can see them back there, lurking.  Ready to make him unhappy and therefore make me unhappy.

We also do this new thing where we try to take our shirt off.  Awesome. /sarc

I wish I could say, with almost a year in, that I am confident I'm a good mom.  But I am not.  I worry every day that I'm holding him back, that he'd be crawling / walking / eating if he had anyone else as a mother.  But sadly for him, he's stuck with me.

This morning has been good.  He's cruising around the furniture bending down to pick things up, standing back up, and cruising some more.  My baby is growing up.  If I stop the clocks in my house, will that stop time?
