Houston, we have lift off
Meaning we have taken some steps solo, and we can crawl. He doesn't seem to know that he could really GO with the crawling. But if he wants to he can get himself around.
My kid just isn't into everything. He's content to sit on the floor and play with his books and toys for the most part. And then he'll come crawl into my lap and grab my hands and silently say, "okay time to walk around now!"
But he isn't crazy adventerous. He's a little curious, but mostly when he gets something new he studies it from multiple angles than looks up at me as if to say, "is this okay? can I play with this?" He doesn't put everything into his mouth (he puts a LOT in his mouth, but not every little thing), he doesn't try to get into everything. He likes looking inside bags and drawers, and carefully touches items, but he doesn't go hell bent for leather and drive me nuts with his antics. At least not yet. As all things are a phase, this all is subject to change.
He does try to walk at every opportunity. ALL THE TIME. At the mall, he tries to bend over and walk. At the house, he grabs my hands and does this shake thing where he's like, okay, lets go now. Or he stands up and starts walking (and I'm still sitting) and pulls impatiently. The thing is, he doesn't know that he doesn't need me to do this. He could do all of this without me. But he doesn't. If he was a braver kid, he'd be storming beaches by now.
But his confidence just isn't there. So I park him at the coffee table and sit several feet away and say "come to mommy!" and he'll turn and yesterday he took up to four steps before he lunged forward. I hate to say it, but my stupid brother in law was right to force him to walk and it appears to be working. I think he will be walking by his first birthday. If not for transportation, he will when pressed.
In other news, he's talking quite a bit now. It's sort of cool. Yesterday I had sesame street on and he doesn't watch it (except when they sing songs) and there is this bit for Elmo that has an intro song that's la, la, la, la Elmo's World. And he SANG it. He said Elmo clear as crystal. Now, he hasn't repeated the Elmo part but if I sing the song he repeats the melody back to me. He says doggie regularly, momma regularly, Da for daddy, and boo for book. And uh-oh. Which is so, so adorable. I say uh-oh, and he says uh-oh. He can do this very well.
He understands a ton now too. I say go find the doggie! And he'll cruise around the living room furniture and go pet the dog. "Ready to get out [of the tub]?" And he stands up and starts to climb out of the tub.
My little man is growing up so incredibly fast.
