Bankrupt

I don't like many of the Republican proposed budget cuts.  They cut WIC funding, and other benefits for children and mothers.  This does not make me happy.

But, I'm telling you, the financial situation in this country is getting dire.  We HAVE to cut something.  We have to.  And it's going to have to come from everywhere.  Cut defense, cut domestic, cut cut cut.

We have to.

Powerline has a story with information from the CBO about how bad the budget situation really is.

And the riots? demonstrations? in Wisconsin today are what is going to start happening all across the country as state bill's come due.

We have to cut, it's awful.  We have to trim the fat.  We have to.  I'm scared of all of this.  I want better than this for my kid.  For all of our kids.  I don't know how to make it right.  None of it is going to be easy.

Cutting is not the only option. Raising taxes is another option. Now, given that in the last 30 years, almost all wealth has gone only to the top 1%, this means there's really nothing new to tax for the lower 99%. But this also means that there is PLENTY of tax money available from the top 1%, the same people, incidentally, who we just spent a trillion dollars bailing out after they crashed the global economy.

Our tax rates for the rich are the lowest they've been in 70 years. We just added a trillion dollars to the deficit giving the rich a tax cut. I'm sorry, when we are in the situation we are in, it is NOT time to give tax cuts to people who absolutely do not need it, and in fact, are already paying far less taxes than they have in 70 years. A tax cut on the balance sheets of government is the same as SPENDING. "Oh, but its MY money" they say - guess what - you only have money because of taxes. No taxes, no money. You only have a stable business environment where you can make money because of taxes. Having a functioning, fair, and stable society costs money. Taxes are the price we pay to have it. Watching millionaires whine about how they need to keep more of their money or they won't contribute is just sickening.

Unions helped even out the income distribution - when more money came in, the profits went both to the management people AND it went to give wage increases to the rank and file. Now that unions are basically dead, wages stagnate for the masses while all of the profits go to those at the top, who then don't want to share a single dime of it. This does not bode well for keeping a stable society. The rich don't stimulate the economy. They invest in nonsense and create bubbles and crash the economy. As they have done. The middle and lower class actually spend their money. So the economy is mostly driven by the spending of the lower 95%. And when they don't have as much to spend because all the money goes to the top, the economy collapses. As it has done.

The rich have tricked the middle and lower classes to blame each other and fight each other while the rich laugh all the way to the bank.

We fundamentally disagree. And so does Congress, it appears, because they passed the tax cuts, and Obama signed them. in fact, they added another tax cut, cutting the SS contributions for this year. so you are alone in thinking that we can tax our way out of this.

The rich haven't tricked anyone. And I DESPISE class warfare like what you're describing. The rich don't stimulate the economy? Our issue at present is that companies are sitting on trillions of dollars in investment capitol because they don't trust the current enviornment. As they shouldn't. It's volatile at best.

And the rich only have money because of taxes? No, the government only has money because of taxes. And right now, the government is spending more money than it's bringing in. They can either make more (which is what they did - they literally MADE MORe by printing it - and now we're going to have inflation issues) or they can cut. They need to do both. We have the most hostile corporate tax enviornment in the world. At a time when companies can literally be anywhere in the world, we should be making our shores look pleasant and homey for our own companies and for foreign entities. We are going to have to do this to remain competitive in a global market place.

I really don't want to argue with you. Go bemoan the fact that you're in the lower class somewhere else. You will get no pity from me.

And unions suck. Period. They served their purpose, now they are power hungry evil goliaths that strangle the very companies that GIVE THEM JOBS IN THE FIRST PLACE. They would rather the company go bankrupt paying pensions than accept the reality of the world that we live in today.
