Things I'm Thinking ...
First, I forgot what I was going to write first. I assume by the time I go through this exorsize, the thought will return.
I forgot to buy milk the other day and I keep forgetting it every time I go to the grocer. Which I was just at this afternoon. That's the second time. Will ask the husband to pick milk up on the way home, as it appears, I'm incapable of picking it up.
It took me an entire trip home from the grocer, about twenty minutes if I don't take the tollway, to figure out why my iphone was playing the audiobook fast. The reader sounded distorted. I thought there was some sort of glitch in my phone's software. Nope, oh contrare, there is a setting to where you can have the reader slow down, or speed up 2x. I was glad to find this out because I thought I was losing my mind.
I made Chicken Scallopine with Saffron sauce yesterday. It was really good. Though, I should clarify that it wasn't really Chicken Scallopine with Saffron sauce as I refuse to buy saffron. It's a $20 spice. I veto $20 spices. So what did I use? Well for color they say tumeric can be a good substitute. However, in all of my spices (and I have a ton - including 2 bins of all spice and about 3 jars of rosemary. Why? I have no idea) I do not own tumeric. So what to do? I improvised and threw probably a teaspoon or so of curry in there. Just to see. It worked. Really tasty.
In other multiples. I go through phases of buying things. Its like if I'm almost out or out of something, that thing gets permanentely stuck on my grocery list. I have about 5 cans of rotel for this reason. And before that I had three jars of peanut butter. I think that's how I got so much rosemary, too.
But, oddly, now I am almost out of peanut butter and I have none left. And I've been without milk for two days. I make no sense to myself.
I was invited to a book club two (three?) months ago. It was much fun. The first book the club read was a Jodi Picoult (not my favorite) and the second was Almost Moon by Alice Sebold. The third was Something Borrowed, Emily Giffin. We had our meeting for Something Borrowed last night. I always feel like I talk to much. But talking about books is probably my very favorite thing to do. We also drink wine at these meetings and that's probably my second favorite thing to do. The second does not help the talking too much problem.
I'm listening to The Phsyick book of Deliverance Dane. It's very good but the thing with audiobooks is I never know how far in I am. Am I almost done? How much more? I know I have three or four CD's left but it's not the same. It's the same problem with ebooks on the Kindle. I miss the accomplished feeling of being half way through or almost done. Sometimes seeing I only have twenty pages left makes me power through the last bit.
Speaking of books, does your library have an Overdrive collection? Or another electronic media collection? Because if so, it is the coolest thing that ever happened to the public library. I got the Deliverance Dane book from the library and I just double clicked on the computer and there it was and I put it on my iphone. It's brilliance. I haven't bought a book in months. That makes me very happy.
Grady is doing very well. As this is a Grady blog, I thought I should mention that. He was very happy all day today, even at Strollerfit. He sat in his stroller like a big boy and played with his monkey rings and smiled at all the other mommies. Mom's like smiling babies. He was very popular. Which I think is his goal.
One of the other babies (who is just a month older than Grady) is off the charts now, or was at her 9 month check up. This makes her mommy unhappy because she is so big she should be crawling or pulling up or something, but she isn't. The doctor wants to send the baby to a specialist. This I think is ludicrous. If by 12 months she isn't trying to walk or walking with assistance, maybe. But at 9 months? Nope. Especially not since everyone is keeping their kids on their backs all the time now. Tummy time, while loathesome to the SIDS folks, is how babies learn gross motor skills. Gross motor skills are drastically slower now. And my own son, hates being on his tummy. He doesn't like to play on his tummy. He will roll over and lay on his back and play, or sit up and play, but he does not enjoy being on his tummy. Why? I have a bunch of theories. The first is that he had really bad reflux for months and months and being on his tummy appeared to make it worse. When on his tummy, he immediately spit up. Any pressure at all on his tummy (even putting him in the carseat) made him spit up.
Second theory is that he's been put on his back to sleep and he's used to being on his back and therefore does not like being on his tummy.
I don't know. And now that he's rolling over, I can't keep him on his tummy like I used to. Now he just rolls over. But I keep trying. Which is all I can do. But I can't help but think about my friend who put her son to sleep on his tummy, and he was crawling by 9ish months. Maybe even 8, I can't remember. They just learn so much more gross motor skills that way. Hmm.
Alright. I think that's enough.
PS - the first thought was the speed on the reading of the audiobook, incase you were wondering.
