"Mother" is just fine, Thanks
Oh heaven help us all.
The State Department is changing the passport information so that it no longer lists parents as "mother" or "father" but as "parent one" or "parent two."
Now, the PC police, I assume, are doing this so as to not offend families that do not consist of mom's and dad's, but perhaps mom's and mom's or dad's and dad's. Gay rights groups applaud the decision.
But I ask you, are two gay men, not both Dad's? Are they not both father's? Why not just list it with both options? And if they are to list two parents (I mean what about those that only have one parent? What about those that have four parents? What about those that are not raised by parents at all but are raised by Grandparents? Wouldn't "guardian one" and "guardian two" been more correct? I mean if you're going to go ... GO ALL THE WAY.)
The words mother and father are not offensive. I find "parent one" more offensive. I'm sure any mother, gay or straight, would agree with me. In fact, the woman interviewed nailed it on the head. The passport form wasn't discrimnatory, it was just imprecise.
And since we're going to be getting little dude his passport ... in case he asks ... I'm parent number one. Otherwise known as, The Number One Parent. You read it here first.
