Vacation Time

Please see the linked article from the Washington Post, August 3, 2005.  Entitled:

Vacationing Bush Poised to Set a Record.

Interesting, yes?  President Bush took many, many trips to his Crawford, Texas home while he was President.  So many, that by his August vacation reported above, his 5th year in office, the Washington Post wrote this line: "lackadaisical approach to the world's most important day job, an impression bolstered by Bush's periodic two-hour midday exercise sessions and his disinclination to work nights or weekends."

Hmmm.  I do wonder, though.  If by President Bush's 5th year in office, he had spent 319 days away from Washington (roughly 20% of his Presidency, if WaPo's math can be trusted), in comparison, how many days has President Obama been away from Washington?  On vacation that is.

Well Mark Knoller, "widely" touted as a person who keeps track of Presidential time off ... well he says that President Obama has taken less vacation than his predecessors.  So then it must be so.  Mark Knoller, also likes to use the term Tea Baggers, so I really wonder if a lack of bias is his particular forte.  Though, the interwebs seem to bow down to his counting.  Yes, President Bush spent more time away from the White House, than Obama has, they say.

But ... did President Bush golf every sunday?  Not so much.  At least not in war time.  Did President Bush have million dollar parties at the White House with celebraties?  (And I can't find a reputable source on how much the parties cost, or how many he's had versus counterparts.  So I may eat crow on this later.)

And this all comes up because of the Hawaii vacation crap.  There is a perfectly good military base there, on the island where they are staying.  But would the President and his wife stay there?  Where security would be much easier?  No.  They had to have three beach front houses.  With just a few facts in, the estimated cost is $1.5M.  For a roughly two week vacation.

Bet the White House staff loves that.  I always wanted my company to send me to the home office in Paris.  I bet it's sort of like that.  Merry Christmas to them.

And this is just what continued my ire today.

What started it, was this article in the New York Post that says the Sanitation workers deliberately plowed streets badly and slowly so that Mayor Bloomberg would realize he needed to pay them more during contract negotations with the union.

A woman had to give birth to her baby in her apartment lobby because an ambulance couldn't get to her.  She and her newborn waited 9 hours for assistance.  Her baby died.

In big snow storms there are casualities because of accidents and all sorts of things.  But those sanitation workers came and confessed because they knew what they were doing was wrong and was hurting people.  And who knows what could have happened to that little baby if they had gotten there in 8 hours or 7 instead of 9.

BREAKS MY HEART.

And meanwhile, NYC is SHUT DOWN and people are stuck in airports and can't get home and President Obama is on a million dollar flight to Hawaii for two weeks.

I'm just angry.  I know there's nothing he could do to fix it and it's not his job.  It's the same thing people used to say about President Bush and it was bogus then too.  I'm just mad and lashing out.

The hypocrisy infuriates me.
