Full Body Scanners and the Pat Downs

So I've been keeping up with all the talk about the full body scanners that Napolitano is pushing out lately because we're traveling for the Christmas holiday.  And I'm petrified of the scanners.  And the pat downs.

I don't like being touched.  PERIOD.  I don't like it when men I don't know touch my shoulders, try to give me a hug, or really even use a nickname for me.  I don't like it.  Never have.  In college, I was absolutely no fun to have at parties, because the guys would all try and be friendly and flirt and I found out early on (freshman year) that if you did not expressly say "NO" they would keep touching.  The B word was used more than once.  "Why are you so mean?"  To which I would smile and try and fix it, without touching, but really what I was thinking was, "So let me get this straight, I'm MEAN if I don't let you touch me?"

I won't take my son through a full body scanner.  The radiation has raised concerned about the health risks.  Like I'm going to let my six month old be a guinea big for THAT.

And I won't let them touch him.  It's bringing out the bear in me (the mama bear, my dad would say).  I'm trying to think of ways to get around this problem, the easiest solution would be to drive but this time of year is hard because we have so little time.  If I have a bad experience with security, Grady and I will not be traveling again.

Lewis says, if you don't feel violated after a pat down, it was a waste of time.  And they are doing what they pretended to do all along.  But I'm not paying money to fly on a plane and get treated like a criminal with a search that a police officer has to have probable cause to do.  I'll drive.

Because I really don't like being touched.  And the idea of the sort of invasive pat downs they are talking about makes me want to cry.  Would they let me video tape the procedure?  Because if so I'd consider it. If not, then no.  What would they be doing that would cause them to hide?

And the idea of them frisking my baby ... seriously.  Makes me want to throw something and we're not even at the airport yet.

Hopefully the backlash will grow over Thanksgiving and they'll have to change their procedures by Christmas.

And the simple reality is, none of the security measures taken between 9/11 and the Christmas Day bomber STOPPED the Christmas Day bomber.  And none of these full body scanners stopped the ink cartridge bomb attempt a couple weeks ago.  I fully appreciate putting us through a metal detector and looking for knives and guns.

I have zero confidence in TSA.  I have been treated terrible by TSA, and I read their rules and follow their guidelines.  They are goons with a stupid plastic badge.  We've created our very own, uneducated gestapo.  Government employees who have the right to touch us, at will, jail us, at will, and not just us, our CHILDREN.  All to stop terrorists who find new ways every day to bring explosives into this country.

And wouldn't it just be funny if their main objective wasn't to blow up a plane, but to have TSA change their procedures to where people had to strip before entering a plane, and they could sit back and laugh, while they drive a truck full of explosives up from Mexico, and blow up a shopping mall in California.
