President Obama Skipped Fundraising Dinner
I know that I read more about these things than most, simply because of the websites that I tend to frequent.
But via Doug Powers and MM, the President had a planned fundraising dinner ($7,500 a head - read everything that went into it - it sounds like a ton of work) at which the hostess had some big wig chefs prepare local RI fare with local RI foods. The chefs were supposed to be out of town last night, but for the President of the United States, they changed their plans.
So the President shows up at the event, talks for 20 minutes, and then can't stay for dinner (the event was billed as a Dinner. Dinner with the President). His excuse for leaving? Kid you not, to scoop dog poop. He actually said that.
I know the guys busy. I know he is. And this probably happened with Republican Presidents too and I just didn't hear about it (based on the things I frequent). And it sounds like it was mostly State Congressional Democrats in attendance, so maybe he didn't want to stay to continue preaching to the choir, so to speak.
But seriously, taken as a whole, all these little things ... I mean he's just not very polite.

The President bailed on a fundraiser, big whoop.
We have a person running for office that doesn't know the first amendment. Who wants to stop the whole country from having sex!
I understand that you do not like the President. I can respect that you harbor a dislike of Democrats. But, you will not give equal commentary on Miss O'Donnell, just because she is a Republican. Why not? Why can you not point out the people on both sides of the political fence who would be/already are horrible as lawmakers?
I believe I did write a blog about Christine O'Donnell. http://bellsforstacy.blogspot.com/2010/09/eating-their-own.html
I haven't dwelled on it because 1) I'm busy. 2) she isn't going to be my Senator. I haven't made a lot of hay about that guy from Boston in Ted Kennedy's old spot either, (who's name ESCAPES me at the moment) even though I could write a bunch of blogs about what a disappointment he is.
Christine O'Donnell is who the people of Delaware nominated for the Republican nomination. That's who they wanted. What am I supposed to say about that exactly?
I come to your site/commentary because if you aren't Obama bashing, it is really insightful and educated stuff. Your commentary on education and laws is, if nothing more; a fresh perspective.
Please remember: 1 Timothy 2:1-3
"There fore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all Godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior." I don't agree with much of what is happening at the highest levels of this country, but I pray every night for the steady hand of our leaders.
It is easy to just spout what people do/have done wrong; remember Matthew 7 1-2
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
You passionately dislike and have no respect for the President. I 100% believe it is your right as an American to spout off about it. Frankly, I think people should. But, you are smarter than that. Can you really find no good in Mr. Obama? Can you not see that he is doing the best he can, in a bad situation? I challenge you to do better. I dare you to do better. I would beg that people would pray for me in that situation. I would not wish being president on my worst enemy.
Anyone can do the popular thing, the follow the trend thing. Anyone can regurgitate the vitriolic commentary from the pundits, you are much, much smarter and enlightened. Bellsforstacy, I beg of you to please show your readers that you do not harbor only dislike for our President. I beg that you can show real solutions to the very real problems that are affecting this country. Please, please, I beg of you; show us what a truly educated and intelligent person can come up with. Find one thing to find positive in President Obama. You don't have to like him, but I get the distinct feeling that you wouldn't cross a road to bring him a glass of water if he was parched.

Vance - my enlightened, educated opinon on what he should do in and with this untenable situation? Resign. My prayer for this President? That he is not elected to a second term and therefore can not impose his agenda on the nation.
I have said over and over again that he is a well liked, popular man. I have said that there is not one single domestic or foreign policy issue that we agree on, so far. I think Cap and Trade is probably the scariest piece of legislation to come anywhere near being law since I've been of legal age.
Forget all this - I know all this. What I want to know, is what policy of the President's you like? Which policy do you think is so great? What SHOULD I like about the President? If you want to change my mind, please try using logic and debate rather than emotional appeals to my better nature and bible verses copied out of BibleGateway.com.
Rev 21:8.
As to the respect for the President. I respect the office always, but I do not always respect the person setting in the office. He is still our president however, He can't seem to put 2 sentences together without a machine telling him what those sentences are. When he is off message (teleprompter) he seems to show windows into his real thoughts that are not really attractive. At one time he says he wants to work with the other side of the aisle but then he says they have to sit in the back.
While I am on a role, when the 43rd President was in office how much respect was thrown his way.
And if you are talking about Christine O'Donnel which I don't know if I would vote for her, that said, she does know more about the first amendment than her opponent She challenged him on his wording. He said the first amendment was about separation of church and state. The word separation is not in the first amendment. Separation has become the translation which depending on who is reading the bill of rights possibly has different meaning. Just for your reference here is the First Amendment as it is written not as it is translated. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Now another side on President Obama. I have attended many military retirement ceremonies where there is some official Thank You letter from the office of the President presented. In every letter the President thanks the military member for his service. Each letter usually ends with something like' my wife (Rosaylnn, Nancy, Barbara, Hillary, Laura) joins me in wishing you well in your retirement' The current President does not include his spouse in his letters. I don't like that.
Vance if you want to control what is on a blog you might think about writing one of your own.
Revelations 21:8, interesting choice in verse. My quotes are from my handy dandy Bible, that was given to me by my last Army Chaplain.
Mrs. BellsforStacy, I would hope that you can also allow that the President is dealing with a pretty messed up situation. A congress that is inept at best and downright combative at worst. Two wars that were only justifiable in the loosest interpretation of "justifiable war". A economic fiasco that was caused by almost every law maker, wall street trader, and foreign market in the last 25 years. I don't have a solution. I was hoping that I might see what you could suggest. I don't just frequent your site, I am active on others as well. I was turned onto it by a friend. I am trying to understand both sides of this fight; to see what the real, honest-to-goodness solutions are.
I am truly sorry for any view that I am attacking you, or anyone who frequents this site. I only wish for you to find something that YOU like about the President. You seemingly cannot rise above his party affiliation. Again, my sincerest apologies.
If Barack Obama said he was part of the llama party, and he said that he wanted to redistribute wealth, I would think he was wrong and wrong for the nation.
If Barack Obama said he was from the Oz Circles of the Yellow Brick Road party and he wanted to nationalize health care, the automotive industry, the banking industry and just about any other kind of business he could name, I would not like him. And I would vote / campaign against him.
If Barack Obama said he was from Mars and he came to save us but he also had voted yes on abortion legislation that denied a child that manages to survive an abortion medical care, I would think he was a bad person.
My solutions? GET the GOVERNMENT out of the WAY. Don't raise taxes (which they are about to do by omission by their failure to extend the Bush tax cuts), don't say that banks not lending is the problem when in fact, the problem is there is no demand so companies don't need loans to increase supply and grow. Let companies FAIL if they have bad practices. Stop pushing banks to make loans to those that should not qualify. The housing market has to hit bottom (hasn't yet) before we can ever recover from that bubble.
I have said ALL OF THIS over and over again on this blog. I have never made any attempt to say I was an independent or centerist or "I like both sides" person. I have always maintained that I am conservative. I don't like being labeled a Republican because Congressional and RNC Republicans are pretty lame too right now.
I would have loved it if President Obama's policies helped us and got us out of the Recession. They didn't. IN fact, they LIED to get their stimulus passed and it got WORSE. Because they just want to throw money at government programs instead of allowing the free market to correct itself.
I would have eaten crow if it had worked. And I had have begrudingly went to the polls next week knowing that the Dems were going to maintain control because they had fixed things.
But the truth is, jobs aren't back because no one is hiring because Dems are in control. Same thing happened in the 80s when Jimmy Carter was President. Business went into hybernation waiting for a more friendly government enviornment. When Reagan took over, business came back because he was less likely to tax them into oblivion.
When you have been in the military for 30+ years come talk to me about what should or shouldn't be in a retirement letter.
And is it the army, Vance? Or is it the Navy. I swear I remember you posting earlier that it was the Navy.
And I'm interested to know what blog led you here.
