Bush's Book Leaked
I'm SHOCKED! :)
Drudge has the story. The part that I like the best ... he makes absolutely no comment about President Obama.
It is only appropriate, that he not say a single word about the man that currently holds the office. And I know there have been many things said about President Bush. You may not have liked a single thing that he did, his policies, his looks ... you may have thought him stupid.
But I truly, truly believe that he is genuine. Someone you'd have a beer with. I know that many people don't want a President that would be fun to hang out and watch football with, they want someone more sophisticated and polished and intellectual.
History will judge what he, and all Presidents for that matter, have done. And history will decide if the public judged them fairly. I disagreed with just about every fiscal policy that came out of Washington the last two years of Bush's tenure, and some before that. I worked in Senator Frist's office when the Perscription Drug bill passed, and I knew the staffers that slept in cots when they dealt with the filibusters. The funny thing about that was - the Dems wanted the bill passed, they just wanted it passed with a Dem majority so they could take credit for it. And it was less about what was in the bill, and mostly about making a change to medicaid, medicare.
Anyway. What was I saying?
Oh yes, history will judge them all.

President Bush wasn't stupid in the least. I believe that he was misguided and forced (by world events) into making some very snap judgements. (Though, I do believe that lying about the WMD's to justify a war, just to oust a dictator was pretty bad) But I do believe that history will mark him down along side Franklin Delano Roosevelt for the sheer amount of chaos they had to endure.
I sure as hell wouldn't have faired any better than Mr. Bush, and I wish him and his family all the joy this life can give.
But as it turns out, not everyone is a good public speaker. Lots of presidents have been weak public speakers.
I didn't realize a lack of reliance on a teleprompter was fundamental for the office of President. My bad, I will try to better understand what things should be added to the "qualities of a President" list.
