1. Hotels should not have common areas on each floor.  This encourages people to gather.  At all hours.  When people with infants are trying to sleep.  I really wanted to walk him up and down the hallways when he woke up crying at 2AM, just for spite.  But I didn't.

2. It is very weird to go back to your alma mater and have a baby on your hip.  I was in my brother's apartment complex and the kids moving in and moving out ... I don't feel any older than them.  But, ah, the baby on my hip sort of says otherwise.  That and the fact that I was a freshman 11 years ago.  Oh geez ...

3. I like traveling with Grady.  But I like being on home turf better.  More things to occupy him and entertain him, and also because of my awesome rocking chair.  I can not stress this enough, get a comfortable rocking chair.  You will spend countless, thankless, sleepless, nights in this chair.

3.5.  I have not slept more than 4 hours straight in 14 weeks (okay I've slept for 5 hours a couple of times, but it's so rare I don't think it counts).  I do not see this statistic improving any time soon as I now sleep incredibly light and wake up after about four hours going, hmmm, where is he?

4. You can not make certain babies stick to a schedule.  I'm sure there are some people out there who say, "I did Babywise since we came home from the hospital and Besty was sleeping through the night by 6 weeks!"  How wonderful for you.  Point of fact, you can not force a baby to eat when baby is not hungry.  This would not be such a big deal if baby didn't need x amount of calories during any 24 hour period.  If he doesn't get them during the day, he's getting them - you guessed it - at night.  The trick to fix this?  I think they advocate you make a hungry baby wait till morning?  I dunno.  I try cluster feeding and two hour feedings to correct, but seriously, I can not MAKE him eat.  But he's so cute, he just looks up at me and smiles like, "silly mommy!"

4.5. Also, Grady can sleep through the night, but he does it with such irregularity.  And I do the same things nearly every day.  Really.  There is very little variation.  At least there wasn't in the month of July.  And still, he's inconsistent.  I tried feeding every 2 hours for a week, to help him fill up during the day.  This didn't really do anything amazing so we went back to 3 hours with cluster feedings after 5PM.  This works pretty good, the cluster feedings.  But even with those, he can still wake up at 2:00 and be hungry.  And yes, I've tried putting him down without feeding him.  He either won't go to sleep or he wakes up 45 minutes later, angry, and hungry.  I'm told this situation will vastly improve after I introduce solids.

5. Kids (babies) cause this amazing contradiction of emotions.  I have never been so frustrated with a person I love so much.

6. I have gotten lots of baby clothes.  I just got another box today from a woman at my mom's base who's boys are done with them.  And they are soooo cute.  It was wonderful of her to send them to me.

7. Grady coos a lot now.  I think he's trying to sing to me.  I sing to him every night and when I'm doing our little skin regime I sing and he's started cooing while I'm singing.  Trying to sing along maybe?

8. He's ticklish too.  It's soooo funny.  If you tickle his ribs he laughs!

9. Any odds takers on if he sleeps tonight?  It's always a toss up.  The kids social and with guests here he's been wanting to sleep less and play more.  He's been congested too.  Bought a humidifier.  Hoping it helps.  It's bath night.  He usually sleeps pretty good on bath nights.

10. So far, his eyes are still blue.  But they are sort of hazely blue.  We shall see.
