Michelle Antoinette

This is the new name that's being given to Michelle Obama.  I have one issue with it.

Marie Antoinette never said let them eat cake.  She was wrongly attributed to that quote by propagandists in her day that were trying to dislodge the French monarchy.  It worked.

I don't have a problem with Presidential vacations.  But it just seems to me that this First family, takes a lot of them.  Maine for 4th of July, Florida for like a day for a photo op, Martha's Vineyard after that, Chicago for dinners, his wife and daughter in Spain, then they go somewhere else?  Back to Martha's Vineyard?  I can't remember.

I mean they've been on vacation practically the whole summer it seems.  It's just excessive.  And it looks bad.  It may not actually "be" bad, to supporters minds, but they have to admit it looks just God awful.

President Obama preaches sacrifice and perserverance during hard times, and meanwhile his wife is spending thousands of tax payer dollars on vacation.  And not even a stateside vacation, a foreign vacation.  I know Spain's economy thanks her.  Wouldn't Hawaii have been a tropical, beautiful choice?

It's not that she's on vacation, it's that her 10 days reqires x amount of government employees that require x amount of per deim and expenses.  Great that the Obama's are paying for their personal expenses out of pocket, but these other costs aren't minimal.  She should be cognizant of that fact, and she should have been more prudent.

And please, Mr. President, stop being on vacation and get back to work.  Thanks much.  Also, please quit playing golf.

We have a thousand things to worry about here that are more important than the first family taking vacations. I really don't care if they are on vacation 365 days a year. So long as the work is getting done. I didn't care that Bush went to the ranch, or that his daughters did whatever they did for his 8 years. It just doesn't matter. Minor issue.
I do like you defending the historicity of Marie Antoinette as an innocent victim of name calling. That sort of defaming has to stop!
In other news, the stop sign by my in-laws house has a sticker with Obama as the Joker and the word SOCIALISM on it. Sadly no one is in a hurry to rip it down, and my kids ask me why there is a picture of the president like that. Classy.

I'd just like to see some fairness. Bush, as you mentioned, was lambasted for taking so many trips to Crawford. And I sort of wish Congress and the President would take 365 day vacations because that means they can't do any harm with their crappy agenda.

But see, isn't it funny? The propagandists used it against Marie Antoinette and they're using it again against Michelle! I find it ironic.

Vacation as much as you want. But ... during this kind of downturn, be cognizant of the fact that you are an example, and that you are vacationing on the tax payers dime.

The double standard and the tax payer funded expensive vacation (I don't remember the Bush's ever vacationing for 10 days overseas with a bunch of friends) is what bothers me. And don't say it's a business trip. Her one visit with the King is the same thing as Lewis going to one customer meeting in Boston and staying in town some extra days to sight see on the company nickle.

People should respect the President because of the office he holds. I can respect a man and disagree with his policies.

I don't like the bad posters of him any more than I like the effigy's of Bush. Or the effigy's of Palin. Or the signs that said Kill Bush, or assasinate the President. There was an entire art exhibit in NYC that featured only assasinate Bush pieces.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but you won't see me crying for the icky treatment of Obama. It's not right, it's ugly, but what people did to Bush was just terrible. I didn't like everything he did but I never would have thought people would call for the assasination of a sitting US President, regardless of his policies.

I got you to double up on comments. I'm going to call this a success. In any event, I have no clue what the Bush twins did, nor what Laura Bush did (she isn't near as trendy as Mrs. Obama).
Also, don't pretend that Lew wouldn't expense that whole trip. I'm pretty sure he is looking for a way to get EMC to pick up the cost for the brothers trip.

That's my point! He, and a lot of others I might add, do those sorts of things and take advantage of expense accounts. Lewis has a pretty hefty expense account and I just gall at what they let him, and encourage him quite frankly, to spend money on.

That doesn't make it right. And since it's my dime she's dining out on, I think she should be a little more prudent.
