How to Raise Men
Esquire Magazine, How to Raise Men
Lewis wanted me to read the above, he thought I'd like it. It talks about the masculine attributes that we overrate and underrate. I don't really agree with the ones he thinks are overrated. I think ambition is important (he lists it as drive), and I think it fits in with everything else that he talks about. He also thinks that control is overrated, but I don't really see this as a masculine thing. I think women are just as controlling and have maybe an even greater urge to control their enviornments. Though I don't know how valued control is to begin with.
The one that Lewis wants us to foster the most is the delusional optimism. Though he calls it something else, he says "he needs to know that he can do anything!"
Which, of course he can. He's brilliant, my son.
Anyway ... just something I read this morning during nap time.
