Shots
Today we went in for our two month well visit. You do the weight check, the height check, the head check, over all well being of parents and kid, asks about feedings, food, waste, etc. Lots of things. I like going. Someone new to tell all about Grady and my growing neurosis about how we're doing. And they are paid to listen and have an opinion, but my doctor is very nice and Grady is awesome so, so far, I've been told how good we're doing. Which is good affirmation.
But today was not all fun affirmations. Today we were given shots.
In the hospital he had some procedures done, and he powered through with barely a whimper. But he'd also just been through a pretty horrific ordeal and was in a newborn coma, as I call it. This time he was much more alert. He was awake and playing with the paper on the table. He was crinkling it with his hands and toes. And wiggling all over the place. We think he liked the noise.
So when the nurse gave the first shot, his eyes got real wide and he jumped, he didn't know what to do until the second shot, at which point he realized he was under attack, his face got redder than a cranberry and he let out the most heart wrenching wail. Not the, pick me up I'm lonely cry, or the hungry cry, or the I'm done on the floor cry ... the Dear Lord please help me mommy I'm hurting cry.
I welled up. It's not fun watching them hurt. He calmed down okay. Lewis says he was only upset for a minute. But it was so sad.
There are a lot of important milestones coming up. It will be so exciting to watch!
