Grady's June Road Trip - Post Mortem

I know why people stay home.  It's infintisimally easier.  You can keep baby on a better schedule, you always have a convenient place to feed or lay the baby down, and you don't have to contend with crying fits in public and annoying stares from passersby, who are either thinking a) that baby is too young to be here or b) why can't that woman quiet her child?

And nevermind all the issues with long periods of time in a car.  You can all guess as to those.  And I really can not complain.  My lovely child was a trooper and did not have long fits.  He did fuss, but not excessively.  We did have to stop and feed him periodically.  But he's a proficient eater, and we never had to stop too long.

But I know why people stay home.  It's intimidating going away with a baby.  And I was nervous as all get out about traveling with an infant.  Would he get sick?  Would he want to eat every hour and a half (that's happened) would he sleep at all?  What would happen?!?  The unknown is frightening.

The facts though, are these: our family lives far away and in order to do fun things with them, we will have to travel.  Grady will have to travel.  And we may have bad trips, we may have misadventures ... but none of that is going to keep us from going.  Because you have to.

We went to Churchhill Downs on Sunday for Father's Day.  We got a box, there were 24 of us (probably 25 if you count Grady).  I fretted about where I was going to feed him, because horse races are an all day thing.  And it wasn't ideal, and part of me thought I could have stayed home and it would have been easier.

Easier - but I would have missed all the fun.

I'm hoping exposing him early and often to travel will just engrain it in him and it'll come naturally for him.  It certainly seems to.

It was a successful trip.  But I am exhausted.  I hope he sleeps tonight!  :)

PS - I know a lot of the posts are about Grady ... but honestly he takes up a huge amount of my thoughts and concerns.  It's just sort of evolving, I guess.  We'll see.
