5 Weeks
Last night he went 5 hours between feedings. This was unusual and alarmed me a bit. But he seems to be alright. That, combined with the fact that he's just too chunky for his newborn onsies, is evidence to me that our little man is growing. This is excellent news! Except that as I was removing the too small onesies from his dresser, it made me very sad. Already!?! Really!?! Isn't that just too soon?
Another sign he is growing up ... it's almost time to move him to his big kid bed, and out of our bedroom. He's almost too big for the craddle (his arms hit the sides when he "startles" and it bothers him). He can still sleep in it because we are still swaddling at night, but at nap time we're napping in our big kid bed.
I swear I'm probably doing everything wrong and he's probably never going to sleep through the night and will probably want to be rocked to sleep until he's 30. But I swear I'm doing the absolute best that I can! I really wish there was one score card or list of rules that said do this, this and this and you will get an A+ and he will be happy and well adjusted.
It reminds me of Parenthood (the movie) the dad is fantasizing about his kid graduating from Yale or something, and he's valedictorian, and giving his speech and saying how it was all because his Dad did everything right and now he's the greatest, happiest, most well adjusted adult ever.
It's interesting how parents all have the same goals and dreams: happy kids that thrive and don't hate them. Such a simple dream, really. But there just seem to be so many factors that can go wrong and so much second guessing about cause and effect. But then you have my new favorite ...
Grandma: You know, when I was nineteen, Grandpa took me on a roller coaster.
Gil: Oh?
Grandma: Up, down, up, down. Oh, what a ride!
Gil: What a great story.
Grandma: I always wanted to go again. You know, it was just so interesting to me that a ride could make me so frightened, so scared, so sick, so excited, and so thrilled all together! Some didn't like it. They went on the merry-go-round. That just goes around. Nothing. I like the roller coaster. You get more out of it.
I'm definitely enjoying the roller coaster.
