Bottled Water
I saw this on Neal Boortz.
The comments are interesting and the one that's the best is the one that talks about how the enviornmentalists were going nuts talking about all the hazards in our drinking water and scarring people out of drinking from their faucets, so then a business decided to meet that need. People don't want to drink faucet water, I'll make bottled water that they will drink!
I'm a minimalist by nature. Read = very cheap. I don't buy bottled water. I don't even order drinks at restaurants. I drink water. It's free (for now), and stupid restaurants charge almost $3 for a drink these days! That's half an appetizer!
Anyway. The part about the video that I found the most interesting, is the exposing of the myth of recycling. We encourage everyone to recycle, recycle, recycle, but I am convinced that most "recycling" programs, are exactly like this video portrays. We put it in our little blue bins, feeling oh so superior, and then it gets shipped to a place, which sorts it, and most of it ends up in the trash.
We should all be good stewards of the enviornment. And we should all work to minamize the footprint we leave behind. I still put my milk jugs in my little blue bin, but I don't feel superior while doing it. I sort of feel like a sheep. Because someone marketed recycling to me, told me it was cool, and so now I do it. I have no evidence that the recycling is actually bettering anything. But I still do it. Because someone told me it was cool.
Her little commercial here is just as much a play on my emotions and scare tactics as the bottled water commercials.
