16 Days ... but really, who's counting?
Well the counter over there in the corner is counting. I'm counting. My husband's counting. Our friends are counting. My co-workers are counting. I'm assuming my family is counting, though they are less annoying and more laid back than my co-workers and friends. Whom every time I see them ... oh that baby is going to be here any day!
To which I say, two weeks people. Two weeks.
Wow. That sentence used to be three weeks. Gulp.
Conventional wisdom around the mommy cooler is that first babies are late. I was 13 days late. Karma will dictate that baby H is late too. However, I just saw some study out of Britain that says the man may indicate if the baby's late or not. So who knows. Then this, from 2006 says that most babies are born in the 39th week now.
I think this is because more and more people are having planned c-sections and doctors are inducing prior to the 40th week as it's easier for them and the mom to plan. Even the nurses during our classes said that many babies are born prior to holidays as doctors and parents want to plan around family coming into town, etc.
My doctor, whom my husband affectionately calls "surfer lady" is a laid back, "women have been having babies for thousands of years" type of lady. She's a no worries type. She's also a "you're pregnant not dying" type, and instructed that I can still partake in most activities. This did not help me when I wanted husband to do things for me. He'd respond, "but remember, you're pregnant, not dying."
I did have to call her for the first time the other night. Which was very odd. I felt bad. But when you have a question at this stage, better to ask. She called me right back and took me very seriously. But not too seriously. Because she is, after all, surfer lady.
For those wondering, all is well. A normal side effect for this stage.
I am excited, alarmed, antsy, anxious, scared, elated, devestated, ecstatic, worried, overjoyed, paranoid, sad, relieved, eager, insert-any-and-every-emotion-HERE about the end of this pregnancy. Overwhelmed springs to mind.
Mostly ... I just can't wait.
