Slaughter Solution and Health Care

House Dems have committed to passing Health Care legislation by March 21st.  My birthday.  If there is any luck in that, they will not have the votes and my birthday present from the government of this country would be no government run health care.

The bill itself has been changed via some reconciliation bill that has yet to be released.

Which means ... by law, that bill (the reconciled bill) should have to go back to the Senate for another vote.  Because the Constitution orders for a bill to become law, both chambers of congress have to pass the exact same text.  This text is now different.  Therefore, it needs another vote.

But the Dems don't have the votes in the Senate.  And the Dems in the House don't have the votes to pass the bill that did get through the Senate.  So what's a crazy, puritanical, dictator of a speaker to do?

She asks Rep. Louise Slaughter to come up with a rules change that would allow House Dems to vote for the reconciliation bill, and by doing so, voting aye for that bill means that the House "deems" the Senate bill passed.  Without ever having to take a recorded vote.

The lack of consideration for procedure as dictated by the Constitution somewhat amazes me.  And it would seem to me that if they do try and pass the bill this way, we are a quick Supreme Court decision from that bill being null and void.

And from Nancy losing her gavel.

They pass the bill this way at their peril.
