Rick Perry Wins the Republican Nomination

With only 25% of precincts reporting, Kay Bailey conceded to Rick Perry, who's results never dipped below the 50% mark.  Powerline has a blog up about it saying how this illustrates that establishment Washington candidates are going to have a very hard time in November.

They also have this caveat about Medina:
JOHN adds: It may well be true that in some ways Medina is to Perry's right--I haven't studied her policy positions--but I think (and hope) that her volunteering that there is something to be said for trutherism was a key factor in her poor showing. I take it as a sign that it's fine to be anti-Washington and anti-establishment, but it's not OK to be a nut--at least not in a Republican primary.

Medina's problem was that she kept talking about how much trouble the state of Texas was in.  How our budget was going to cripple us, how spending was out of control.  I heard her on Mark Davis's radio program talking about how much trouble our budget is in, and I just shook my head.  It's just dishonest.  We had a surplus last year due to record oil sales (sorry other states - but being an oil producing state has its benefits) and we while we did have a budget shortfall this last fiscal year, Perry took the stimulus money that Washington made him take, and used that money instead of dipping into our rainy day fund. And by all accounts, Texas is among the top 5 states in this economy.  We are weathering this recession far better than our sister states.

That weighed heavily with me on my decision.

That dishonesty (saying our economy sucks when it doesn't is just stupid) coupled with her inability to answer a straight forward question - is what sunk her.  Either you believe the government had something to do with 9/11, or you don't.  There isn't a lot of gray area.  And her pandering or search for gray area in that made her look like a politician who just didn't get it.

So she's toast.  I think her career is over.

And I'm also tired of "so-call Tea Party" candidates.  One of the leaders of the Dallas Tea Party movement is a really great motivator and speaker, if she ever runs for anything, she'd be a tea party candidate.  But Debra Medina has been trying to be a politican for a long time, and she saw a window of opportunity to hitch her wagon to the Tea Party star (so to speak) and she took it.

This primary day, the real people of the tea party movement, shook her off.

Rick Perry has a bunch of problems (though not with thinning hair), and he does not always do what I want.  I'm still angry about Gardasil and he better continue to fly right or I'll seriously investigate Bill White.

But for my part, I'm glad Kay Bailey was decidedly defeated.  We are tired of you, Miss Wishy Washy, I voted for this but now I'm sorry I did because you're mad at me and I didn't want to increase spending but oh look that's what I did.  I voted for you in 2008 (or was it 2006?).  I will not make that same mistake again.

Burgess handily won the nomination, and that was the only other one I cared about.  My district results, I think, are fairly typical.  We had 6% voter turn out (boo) and Prop 5 was approved 66% to 33%.  The other propositions passed by 90% or more.  These primary propositions are really just for the party to form the platform and talking points for the November election.  I missed the platform debate this evening.  Oh well.  I'm sure there will be other events.

Now things get interesting.  Let the games begin.
