Happy Texas Independence Day
Today Texas celebrates his Independence. On this day 174 years ago, Texas broke off from Mexico and became it's own Republic. A quick nine years later we would enter the union. But Texans are very proud of their Republic Heritage. As they (we?) should be.
Today is not only a happy Independence Day, it's also primary day. The end of the gubernatorial primary (please, that it were so). I stopped by the middle school and voted on the way into work this morning. I'm not registered with either party (I don't think Texas requires this) but I voted on the Republican ballot as that's where the important Governor primary is.
Bill White (former Mayor of Houston) is going to win the Dem nomination. Good luck to him.
I feel his chances are slim. He had done some good things for Houston. He had lowered the crime rate pre-Katrina but has since seen that statistic go back up. I haven't checked it recently so it may have gone back down in recent years. He also has worked hard to get the air quality there improved. Because Houston was (is?) the smoggiest city in the country, beating out good 'ole LA.
I have not done a lot of research on Bill White. But peripherally, he's from San Antonio and as Mayor of Houston that stands to bring him a lot of the Hispanic vote, who tend to vote Democrat even though their belief system trends more toward Republicans (social issues). So we'll see what ends up happening here. Houston is a huge city. If they liked him there (no idea if they did) he could stand a shot against Perry.
We all know where I stand on Kay Bailey and Medina. Medina is a crazy person who couldn't answer a simple question. I realize she flubbed up or ... something. But as a person that's been closely aligned to real life "truther" Ron Paul, she is too close to crazy for me.
And Kay Bailey voted for all the bailouts before she wished she hadn't, and she's just running for President. I'd rather she didn't, thank you.
But Medina has done one thing for sure. She will have forced a run-off if the polling is to be believed. And that's only good for one person - Kay Bailey. Exciting times that we live in. We'll see how it all shakes out.
