Not Popular

I know this opinion of mine isn't going to be popular ... but ... from this Yahoo article:

Under both bills, insurers would be barred from rejecting anyone because of pre-existing conditions. Gone, too, would be the practice in many states of charging women more than men, and insurers would be limited in how much they could increase rates on older people.

I think women should be charged more than men.

You should pay for things as you use them.  If you want the coverage, you should have to pay for it.  If you want the yearly wellness exams, and the preventative screening, you should pay for it.  Men - typically - stopping going preventatively to the doctor at 18 and don't go back until after 40.  Why should they pay more for services they don't use?

But men get the coverage, too. Women shouldn't pay more for the same coverage just because men don't take advantage of the coverage they have. My plan covers yearly physicals and blood screenings, etc., for everyone regardless of gender. So, no, I shouldn't pay more for the health plan than my male colleagues just because I actually see my doctor once a year while they don't (even though they could).

Men don't get the same yearly exams women do. There is no need. They don't need prostate exams until into middle age, and they don't need mammograms or breast screenings (typically). They don't even need blood work every year until middle age.

Why should (healthy) men have to pay premiums for yearly exams that a doctor thinks are superfluous? Why should they pay premiums for things they don't use and a doctor does not recommend?

I just see this as something that women use and men don't, so why should men have to pay the same premiums as women when they don't use near as many services?

I didn't think it would be popular. But people that use health insurance (in this case women) should pay for it. And those that don't shouldn't have to pay the same high premiums. They should have the coverage they want and pay accordingly. Their premiums shouldn't be dictated because a woman needs more health care in her 20s than a man does.
