CambridgeGate

Which is sort of a fitting title since it's the Cambridge police department and Professor Gates, which are in question.

I don't have time to go into detail.  New job and all.  Same location.  Long story.  Not going into it here.

Anyway.  Here's a knee jerk reaction from me on the below:

"I think the Fraternal Order of Police endorsed McCain," Gibbs fired back, referring to Obama's Republican opponent in the 2008 election. "If I'm not mistaken."


When a reporter pointed out that Obama had won the support of the Policemen's Benevolent Association, Gibbs conceded: "We got some."

So if he had gotten support from the police he wouldn't have said this?  Or, if they had been supporters, he would have retracted his remarks?  So because Cambridge police didn't (or Gibbs thinks they didn't) endorse Obama, who cares?

This is all politics as usual.  And the President was stupid for having said anything at all.  I'm surprised really.  He's usually much more measured than this.  I guess he's tired of the critism that he takes too long to comment?  I dunno.

Either way.  Haven't read everything ... not sure who owes who an apology.  But I think it was stupid of the President to comment because he hadnt' read the police report or really anything on the incident.  He had a knee jerk reaction and his first response was to claim racism.  Interesting.
