Umm ... what?
I hate that I'm doing this but ... Michael Moore's blog on GM.
I would like him to re-read that sentence. If business over here could wait for people to travel by train we'd be in really sad shape, and probably with a poverty level like what they have in Japan. Who is still struggling to regain solvency after their government, in 1970, instituted bailouts similar to what we've just done.
17 hours. Pssssh. Please. If I'm traveling anywhere in 17 hours it better be to another continent or in a car.
Everything else in his blog is pretty much the party line, Build hybrids! Build trains! Build solar power! Build wind turbines!
Yes, yes, yes dear. And while he's so concerned about his dead or dying Flint, Michigan, maybe he should consider what killing oil and coal in this country would do to places like Texas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, New York, etc. I've never been to Flint, Michigan but I've traveled through dying mining towns and those are just as sad.
And then what the higher cost of energy will do to the poor in this country. I can't afford to buy a hybrid car. And I can't afford to put solar panels on my house. People must come first.
I wonder if we would have bailed out typewriters or buggy whips if this administration (and the one before it) existed back in those days. Would they be deemed to important to fail?
By the way ... I had a really strange dream. I was running around a Walmart shopping center and Darth Vader (kid you not) was chasing after me and hit me over the head with a large folding table. He then disappeared and I ran out to the parking lot where I discovered I had no clothes on and I couldn't find my car. Wierd.
The fact that the technology already exists for us to go from New York to L.A. in 17 hours by train, and that we haven't used it, is criminal.

I wanted to point out that while it's true Flint has gone through a transition due to changes in the auto industry, we are a community on the rebound with many positive attributes, including excellent parks, museums and cultural activities.
Our downtown also is experiencing an impressive revival with many new businesses, restaurants, apartment lofts and college-student housing being built and opened.
If you want to learn more about Flint, Mich., and the surrounding Genesee County area visit our Web site, www.visitflint.org, our chamber’s Web site, www.flintchamber.org, and our informative city Web site, www.cityofflint.com. You can also go to the Web site of the C.S. Mott Foundation, mott.org. This is one of the oldest and strongest Foundations in the world and it’s based right here in downtown Flint.
In addition, you can become a member of any of our Facebook pages "Flint Discoveries", "Flint Michigan" "Flint Area Convention and Visitors Bureau". Or go to our area events page at www.geneseefun.com. Also, feel free to follow us on Twitter, twitter.com/flintcvbtourism.
Learn about the many colleges based in our town, including University of Michigan-Flint (www.umflint.edu); Baker College (www.baker.edu); Mott Community College (www.mcc.edu) and our internationally recognized engineering school Kettering University (www.kettering.edu).
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to learn more about our area.
Of course, you may say because I’m from the Flint visitors bureau I have to say these things. But really I don’t because I could have just not responded at all. I only say these things because they’re true.
If you are ever in Michigan, I encourage you to take a little extra time to discover Flint and Genesee County. I’m sure what you’ll find will surprise you. And I'd be more than happy to show you around as we frequently have writers in our area wanting to learn more about us.

Flint isn't dead or even dying. It has serious challenges, no doubt. But it is very much alive.
