This is why you have them one at a time ...

So sayeth my husband. To explain, we watched my nieces and nephew for two days and one night while my BiL (Matt, mentioned here more than once) and SiL took a mini-break in Dallas. I think it was more fun for me than it was for them! We took the kids to the Fort Worth Zoo on Saturday afternoon, then home for dinner of tacos and nachos, made brownies, and stayed up an hour past bedtime. Saturday morning (when Lew made the above quote) we took them to see Up! at the movies and then to the pool. The goal, of course, being to tucker them out for their long drive home that afternoon!
The zoo was fun, Shorty kept pointing at everything and yelling "look what I found!" so her big brother and sister would come running and see what she saw. This worked so well the first time she did it that she did it at least a 100 times after that. Then we fed the birds (sorry zoo people, no idea what kind they are) and they kept wanting to feed ALL the birds, including the pigeons, starlings, and native cardinals. It was a lot of fun.
Though very hot. I can't imagine going in the middle of summer. Sheesh!
The pool was a bit more of a challenge as the two youngn's were without their traditional floaties and the eldest sweet girl was very apprehensive about the water without them. She got over it quickly and will probably ace her swim lessons next week! Shorty knows no fear and just kept jumping in to the water safe in the knowledge that Aunt Stacy or Uncle Lew would catch her. Which, even if it meant diving a foot to the right as she laughingly tries to escape our clutches, we did.
Up! for those interested, was sentimental and sad. My nephew enjoyed it, Sweetie was sort of indifferent and it was completely over Shorty's head. About two minutes in she was like, "I don't like it."
But Lewis and I both came out of it thinking, that was really sad. The sadness was mostly over the kids head (showing how good Pixar is at this) and they mostly talked about the talking dogs and the balloons.
I liked it, will probably own it, and if you have kids over 6, I'd say take them. At least for the "Squirrel!" parts. Soooo funny. I love talking dogs.
