Star in Denver

We were in Denver over the weekend visiting friends who are having a baby.  We went for the baby shower, stayed to see Star Trek, and then pretty much came home.

These quick weekend trips kill me for the next week, but it's always so wonderful to see our friends.  I'm glad my husband and I agree that visiting friends and family is a priority.  Many people don't travel as often as we do and many people think we are insane.  But relationships, especially those spanning thousands of miles, do not maintain themselves.

I'm very lucky we both agree.

The airline industry is lucky, too.  I think we might be single handedly supporting them.  Us and my parents.  I'll post a few of the pictures I took from the shower when I get home.  Alissa is due in less than 4 weeks so she's ready to be done with this thing, but she looks beautiful.

Star Trek almost deserves it's own post but I can't be bothered.  I loved it.  It was so fun to see the characters again and I have to admit I get a little thrill every time I see the starship Enterprise.  It's like chicken soup or something, just a nice warm feeling.  I was raised on STNG and Jean Luc Picard and Commander Riker and Crusher, but I've seen all the ST movies and loved them too.  Who doesn't love "The One With The Whales," as it should be renamed.

Some light spoilers so be warned ...

I love the clever way they "fixed it."  It's a new time, a parrallel universe.  All the old movies happened, but it's like at the end of those, Spock came back, changed it all, and now we get to do it again.  My mother made a good point though ... why did Ohura and Spock have to have a relationship?  Ohura didn't have a relationship with any of them in the originals.  So it's that whole parrallel universe thing and things are different here ... but it sort of cheapens Ohura for me.  Why couldn't see have been just a strong female character that mans the bridge?  Like in the originals?  Only with more of a role thoroughout the series?

I rate this, on my grand rating scale, not quite as good as Ironman (nothing is).  But very good none the less.  It was quite enjoyable.  Lewis made a good point and I think it's what I'm feeling too ... the bad guy wasn't made out to be as bad as usual.  You just didn't really hate him.  And the end was too easy for him.  I think I agree.  It just didn't feel triumphant!

But all that said, I did love it, LOVED the casting, and can't wait to see what they do next.

On to Terminator.  Count down to HBP!!!
