Unlimited Bailout
Geithner is going to use the money being repaid to the Fed from big banks and give it to the small banks.

No, no, no, and no, Mr. Geithner.  That's my money.  Put it in the treasury and leave it there.  We did not give you a free pass to keep a trillion dollars to give as bailouts till the end of time.  That was a one time deal.  If it's paid back, it's back, and it stays in the treasury to be used for something else.  Not a continual bail out.

Eating Their Own
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is going to investigate what Nancy Pelosi knew about torture and when she knew it.  Umm ... everyone on the House Intelligence Committee got the same briefing.

And this is old news.  THIS is a Washington Post story from December of 2007.

With one known exception, no formal objections were raised by the lawmakers briefed about the harsh methods during the two years in which waterboarding was employed, from 2002 to 2003, said Democrats and Republicans with direct knowledge of the matter. The lawmakers who held oversight roles during the period included Pelosi and Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.) and Sens. Bob Graham (D-Fla.) and John D. Rockefeller IV (D-W.Va.), as well as Rep. Porter J. Goss (R-Fla.) and Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan).

So while Democrats may be making a grand stand about it now, they've done nothing since January 2007 when they came to the majority.  Three Congressmen from the above list (in bold) are still seated members.

It's interesting to me that Hoyer is going to attack Pelosi in this way.  And it's even more interesting that Pelosi is publically kneeling at the President's feet, giving lavish praise at a press conference about the impending Health Care Entitlement bill.  Since he's now said he will not release torture photos (a decision I applaud, though I wish he had not released memos regarding the same), will he also protect her from an investigation?  And what does the ACLU (who fought for the photos release) have to say about this?

Speaking of torture ... the Washington Post has an Op-Ed wondering outloud ... "What if Cheney's right?"  What if the enhanced interrogation techniques really do save lives?

Yeah, what if?  And what is the moral culpability if we can save 1000s of people with these "ehanched" methods?

Inquiring minds want to know.

In other news that should chill your blood ...

The Obama administration has begun serious talks about how it can change compensation practices across the financial-services industry, including at companies that did not receive federal bailout money, according to people familiar with the matter.

That's not socialism or communism.  What's happening with GM and Chrysler and with banks in this case is Fascism.  It's a wierd hybrid we are forming.  An all powerful leader (leaders - Congress included) who can take assets on demand, limited compensation and entitlement programs for all.

And from Iraq, the Iraqi death toll is rising.

Another jewel from Powerline.  Before the bailout was passed in February, the President said that if we didn't do something immediately, the unemployment rate would go sky high and there would be sadness and destruction and we just HAVE TO DO SOMETHING IMMEDIATELY.  He even provided charts to show where the unemployment would be without the bailout, and where it would be with it.  The charts are over at Powerline.

As you can guess ... unemployment is HIGHER than he projected it would be WITHOUT the bailout.

Read the whole thing.  Actually, read all the links.  There will be a test.  :)

Just watched part of a White House Briefing. The press is not happy with the photo turn around. They are wondering why this happened. They also are wondering why he didn't just issue an executive order shutting down their release. Why is he allowing it to return to the court for argument.
It is very interesting to see this administration struggle with all the aspects of this job.
