A couple of things ...

The problem with identity politics is that if you have any objections to the person discussed, you now are not only objecting to that person, but to that persons identity.  I can not object to Sotomayor because of her 60% reversal rate, or her dislike of lawyers and her tendency to "bully",  if I do the other side argues that I wouldn't say that if she were a man.  Or if she were white.  Se la vie.

North Korea and Israel are on the brink of nuclear war.  Not with each other obviously.  Are you paying attention?

North Korea has said that they view "South Korea's participation in a U.S.-led program to intercept ships suspected of spreading weapons of mass destruction tantamount to a declaration of war against the North."  And that they are no longer bound by the armistice that ended the Korean war.  Russia is preparing for a nuclear North Korea, and meanwhile, President Obama cut our own missile defense program, and just about every other defense budget there is.  What Secretary of State Clinton and President Obama do here is vitally important.  But this is much more than just China's problem.  This is the worlds problem.

Israel has pretty much stated that they are on their own now, and that they will defend themselves.  This does not bode well for us either, as Iran has said repeatedly that the only thing they dislike more than Israel is Westerners.

I'm busy with an event this week and a presentation.  I have other thoughts.  On things like consumer confidence numbers (yeah!), IRS revenues plunging (DUH, DUH, DUH!) and what that means for a country that is so heavily overextended, and Government Motors and how I will never, ever, ever buy American.  Which is so very sad.

Back to work as I wait for yet more information from yet more people.  I swear I'm just a professional nag.

She does not have a 60% reversal rate. That is such an inaccurate statement, we should call it what it is: a flat-out lie. She has written well over 300 majority opinions (I think it's around 380). Of those, 5 have been reviewed by the US Supreme Court. 60% of those (aka 3) have been reversed. Clearly, that does not equate to a 60% reversal rate of her opinions.

Se la vie should be c'est la vie

Oh well ... on the spelling.

I love how people read this post and comment on everything except the nuclear war that's being threatened.

And while you are right on the math about Sotomayor, so am I about the identity politics.

It's sad to me, because this woman could have the brain of a turnip but she'll be appointed to SCOTUS just because she's a woman and hispanic.

If I were her, I'd be upset at being used in that way.

I suppose she *could* have the brain of a turnip. But, generally speaking, people that graduate with honors from Princeton, go to Yale Law, and then get appointed to the federal bench...well, they're not vegetables!

If she was under-qualified that would be a different story all together, but she's obviously not. I mean, should she turn down this opportunity--one that she's undoubtedly worked hard to earn--just because she's a Hispanic woman? 'Course not, that would be silliness!
