Consitution Applies to Me ... but not to Thee

In the context of gay marriage, the Constitution is shouted, trumpted from the lungs of proponents.  No descrimination!  Equal rights for all!

In the context of prayer in schools, the 10 Commandments in court houses, and Christmas trees, separation of church and state is plastered in every news story and headline.

But in the context of the Church itself and how it's run - specifically the Catholic church - apparently the Constitution and that separation clause need not apply.  The state legisltature of Connecticutt is attempting to take control "over church affairs from pastors and bishops and instead turn over control to a series of elected boards, explicitly excluding the bishops and pastors from voting."

And what's worse - they are rushing it through.  The people have 3 days to look it over and make their voices heard.

I don't understand everything that's going on here.  And as is the way with the MSM, it's not being covered.  If you're interested, read HotAir's coverage.  They have a quote from Rep. Lawlor (name on the bill) about why it's being proposed.  It's a bunch of huey.

Freedom for all!  Unless you believe in God, want to keep the money you earn, teach your children at home, send your kids to private school, drive an SUV, own a gun, or believe that human life starts at conception.  If any or all of those things apply ... well you're just stupid and the government will do everything it can to silence you.

Isn't that nuts? Like you, I've only seen snippets of it reported anywhere so I'm not at all clear on what prompted this. I can't understand how something like this could get through a state legislature. Scary.

Pretty weird stuff. As a good Baptist I am all for separation of church and state. I promise not to force my faith into every "public" forum and in return the state stays out of church business. Seems fair enough to me.
