"Boring Mothers"
I found the greatest post today via Meryl's shared items! It's from Her Bad Mother and it's a response to Rachel Cooke who says that mother's that spend any considerable amount of time talking about motherhood are boring and set feminism back.
I'm paraphrasing.
One of the best comments over at HBM is this:
I think she nails it, right there. Ms. Cooke's friends have all moved on to something infinitely more rewarding and consuming and she can't relate. And they no longer want to talk about what she wants to talk about, so she's lashing out at the world at large.
It's all worth a read. And it speaks to me because I have often felt that certain women think that you aren't furthering feminism or making women proud if you aren't persuing a fast paced career. I am in awe of women that do that and think they are talented and wonderful. And heck I work hard where I'm at. But it's not where my passion lies. And it will never fulfill me. I'm just not built that way.

I read this the other day and have been seething ever since but haven't been able to put my words together enough to explain why.
I don't get how someone not interested in her traveling to Yemen is a sign of a boring woman - maybe they just don't want to be bored by yet another story by Rachel about herself?
Seemed to me the bigger issue is that Rachel is upset that people don't want to talk about her or her favourite things too much - poor little baby.
