Pork Chops in Fig Sauce
A handful of things went wrong with this dish. And its one of the first times I've ever disliked something I've made. I was willing to try something different, but either I messed it up (yes) or I just don't like it.
I made this out of my new cookbook that my sister got me for Christmas. The pork chops itself were okay, if not over seasoned (my fault). They were just too salty. The orzo was okay, but too strange. Husband didn't like it. We normally eat orzo but this was seasoned funny and had peas in it and he just didn't dig it. And he wasn't eating figs. He said "Figs are for old people." :) That makes me laugh.
But the thing that really ruined this meal (really just my mood - the over seasoning killed the chops) was that I cooked the chops in my beautful pans that we got last Christmas, and after searing them on both sides, placed them in the oven to cook through at 375.
They cooked beautifully (in my beautiful pans) and I took them out and began to plate. I put one on a plate, fiddled with it, and went back to grab the other one.
The handle looked so inviting. It was there, sticking out like a handle should, begging to be grabbed. It should have been beating a bright red color, warning those around that yes, this handle had been in the oven for the better part of 20 minutes and yes, this handle was blazes hot.
Sigh. My hand is now cooling with aloe and resting peacefully.
