News flash: They still hate us
November 5, 2008 Guardian UK:
Hossein is smarter than most Americans, who I think believed that with Obama as President, the world would start to come around and be our friend again. Contrast that story in the Guardian with what's happening today in Iran ...
Powerline has the story today or Iranians burning Obama's image in effigy, as he has been blamed for Israel's attack on Gaza. They also had a story I think last week on how the world honeymoon has ended before he was even inaugurated, due to protestors waving around his face in Jakarta, again, because he's being blamed for the Israel / Gaza conflict.
Our enemies still hate us. And as Obama has been figuring out in his security briefings, the threat is real, the bad guys are scary, and it will be his job to protect us.
Iranians reacted positively to Barack Obama's election, saluting the choice of the American people in breaking with George Bush's policies and hoping - despite years of deep mutual mistrust - for better relations between Tehran and Washington.
...
Seyyid Hossein, 30, a teacher, said: "Obama's victory could improve things because he has his head on his shoulders. But I believe the regime doesn't want better relations with the US. It wants to have a big enemy to frighten people and maintain its rule."
