Nancy Pelosi: Pushing for Depression
With the job numbers out today the highest they've been in 16 years, you'd think the voices we'd hear in Washington would be somber, calm, "let's think this through" and get some solutions on the table that will get us all back in track.
Oh no, what we hear are more chicken littles. What we hear is ridiculousness.
Nancy Pelosi is quoted in the Washington Post as urging P-E Obama to repeal the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans as soon as possible, not waiting for the two years for the tax cuts to expire. Most economists agree that raising taxes even the slightest bit right now (and taking more money out of the economy) would send us even further down the recession rat hole.
I can tell you anecdotally, that if the company I work for has to pay even a cent more to Uncle Sam, we will have more lay offs. Within the same month as an announcement that taxes are being raised. I'm sure we aren't the only ones.
Read this study out of UCLA that says:
I am hoping that there are enough smart people at least circling Washington that P-E Obama will ignore the idiots like Pelosi, Reid and the others on the far left and look at this thing from the logical position of the unbiased middle. There is too much at stake for them to rush, play party politics, or for them to be more concerned about themselves and their individual states. Someone has to pay the piper. And someone has to stand up and tell people that the days of buying everything on credit and carrying a balance are over. The days of buy now, pay later are over. Someone has to stand up and tell people that yes, there is a limit to what you can own. And yes, there is a difference between what you need and what you want.
I want some research done on the houses that are going into foreclosure. How many of those homes still have a current account with a sattelite TV provider? A cell phone? Internet? I'm interested in the results.
Real people are making real sacrifices and real people who work hard are in danger of losing their jobs because of the failed chicken little tactics in Washington. Responsible individuals are being asked to carry the burden for those that made bad choices. That will be the downfall of our nation. Because the people in Washington decided that there are no consequences for bad choices, only consequences for making good ones. We will all pay for the mistakes of the few. And so will our children. And so will our children's children.

"High wages and high prices in an economic slump run contrary to everything we know about market forces in economic downturns," Ohanian said. "As we've seen in the past several years, salaries and prices fall when unemployment is high. By artificially inflating both, the New Deal policies short-circuited the market's self-correcting forces."And what is it that P-E Obama and Pelosi and Reid want to do? A new New Deal. It is universally acknowledged that raising taxes in the 30s is what prolonged the Depression in the first place. Surely these people know that. And know that the world does not exist in a vaccum and that while they think that no actions have consequences, the decision they make in the next 100 days could set us on a course that is irreversable.
