Peronally, I had a really good 2008. In fact, I had a good 2007. And while we're at it, 2006 was good to me too! I'm sort of sad to see 2008 go. We traveled a lot, visited with friends a lot, and I went to Europe. A life goal met.
But as far as politically and globally, and I am so glad to see 2008 go. The longest Presidential campaign in the history of campaigns is over. The most hated President in the history of Presidents is about to say goodbye, and we can see if President Elect Obama can make good on his promises. It's sort of like having a backseat driver for the past 8 years and finally throwing up your hands and saying "Would you like to drive? Go ahead!" We'll see if they can do better.
For 2009 I'd like to see the jobless numbers get lower. I'd like everyone that wants a job to be able to have one. I'd like a lot of other things on a global scale. I'm not going to go into them all.
I'd like Texas Tech quarterback Taylor Potts to be good. I'd like Tech to be competitive next year. I'd like Graham Harrell to be drafted to an NFL team. I'd like Michael Crabtree to stay at Tech, though I know he wont. It's not in his best interest.
Personally ... I'd like to go to New York in the fall. I'd like to camp more (I said this last year, and we didn't camp once. Bummer). I'm thinking about getting a new dog. I'd like to go to Napa with friends from North Carolina, the beach with our friends from Boston. I'd like Megan to be as happy on her wedding day as I was. And maybe use real plates at her reception.
There are a host of things I'd like to do, clubs to join, classes to take. I have a feeling that 2009 will be another great year for me - not without challenges - but a great year. I will miss you 2008.
