Post Holiday Wrap Up

From Christmas 2008!
I've mimicked Meryl over at Mybitofearth and made a bit of a college of pictures ... but more pictures are available at the link just below the image.

Well, I have to say if Christmas 2008 were judged by outside viewers, it would be a success!  This was my first year hosting at my home, but with everyone being adults and mom still  ... well mom I didn't have to do that much.  Lewis and I did make dinner on Christmas Eve, and Lewis did fry another turkey.  This one turned out so very good!  Much better than at Thanksgiving, mostly because we kept the temperature of the peanut oil in check.  I have pictures of the delectable bird and the other tasty treats we created on the other camera, and those have not been downloaded yet.

Mostly what you'll see at the link, if you choose to visit, are pictures from the event that was mom's present.  We gave mom tickets to Manheim Steamroller at the Dallas Sympony Orchestra, who played the day after Christmas.  We all got dressed up in our finest duds, took some pictures, ate dinner at one of Lewis's favorite places Buca de Beppo, and made our way downtown.  It really was wonderful.  With everyone over the age we had cocktails in the lounge and listened to carollers and enjoyed the beautiful decorations.  And Manheim wasn't half bad either!  The band has changed so many times and you see a different touring company in different parts of the country, but the music was great and the drummer was new to the group and just seemed happy to be there.  Mom and I bought CDs and had the musicians sign them after the show.

A very enjoyable evening.

Overall Christmas was enjoyable.  It was a comedy of errors* trying to get everyone in the same place at the same time, and I think this will be known as the Christmas Brian got in a car accident (see star), almost missed a plane, and Dad almost killed him, or ... the year of "the Internets down!" ... or the year of "Pearl street does not cross 75!" ... or the year we all went to Dallas and had a great time at Stacy's house.

Any of those will do ... but I'll settle for the latter.  :)

*Grandmother had surgery so mother flew to Kansas from Cali in early December to be with her.  I drove up to pick her up on Friday, December 19.  On December 22nd, Brian, Megs and Ron were flying down from Ohio.  Brian got in a small fender bender about 3 hours before they were to take off.  They spent 45 minutes waiting for the cop to show up (that the other lady called) before we suggested Brian just give her his information and leave.  Brian had one more errand to run before he could leave town, so he was 15 minutes (or so) late back to the house.  They made it to the airport almost exactly 45 minutes before take off (you have to check baggage 45 minutes before take off or they don't let you on the plane).  Parents were irrate.  Dad was talking about killing Brian the entire day and Mom was in a panic thinking Dad was REALLY going to kill Brian and therefore would ruin Christmas.  Dad arrived Christmas Eve at lunch time and Mom and I went to pick him up (sans Brian, in an effort to prolong his life) and then met up with the rest of the gang for lunch.  Dad had a 30ish woman at the airport counter make a very bad pun about his name ("Is it E .... or Eye Candy?") so he was feeling chipper.  I made a comment something like ... "she didn't know you were 60?"  He didn't like that.  At the lunch restaurant, mom made him tell the story again, and Megan took it one step further and said (without prompting) "Does she know you've got one foot in the grave?"  Hillarity ensued.  Brian survived.

It was a great week.  I wish everyone were still here.  And the dog was so confused today.  She went walking in to all the rooms looking for people and no one was there.  :(

She then breathed a sigh and went to lay down.
