A Christmas Question

UPDATED and moved to the top ...

John Tesh's blog has some really good ideas for gift giving ... including used books (I've done this before, no one has noticed), family gifts (love this idea), and going in on gifts together, which my family does a lot of.  It's worth a read.

BeingFrugal has some great money saving ideas.  One of which I've adopted myself recently ... when buying online, always do a search for coupon codes to that retailer before checking out.  I saved $40 at shutterfly that way with a 10% off coupon and free shipping.

Via one of my followers I saw this video:

This brings up an interesting point that I've thought about at several Christmas' past.  We have so much ... how do we make sure that we're making someone else feel equally as blessed?

The entire website behind the video is at http://www.adventconspiracy.com/.  Click around at the resources and  see how they are recommending giving time as opposed to physical gifts.  This is all good and well for those that live nearby to their loved ones ... but I think those of us that live far away but still want to remain top of mind with, especially with, the wee ones in our lives, we need to be a little more creative.

One thing I heard that a family in my office was doing for holidays and birthdays ... they ask that families and party attendees give donations to the children's savings / college accounts.  This is sort of where my mind is going with gifts this year.

I'm not sure.  But I will think of it.

Also, Macy's is donating to the Make a Wish Foundation for every letter to Santa Claus they receive .  In an age when such a thing is discouraged as not being secular enough, I like it.  It's not overtly Christian, I know ... but it is traditionally Christmas.  It's called the Believe campaign, and the website is pretty cool.

The thing that I like about this ... it's free.  All you have to do is drop a letter in a box and Macy's will donate.  The benefit to them is that you're in their store and you're more likely to buy something from there.
