"The Treatment Of Bush Has Been A Disgrace."
WSJ
I agree.
This is the price Mr. Bush is paying for trying to work with both Democrats and Republicans. During his 2004 victory speech, the president reached out to voters who supported his opponent, John Kerry, and said, "Today, I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent. To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support, and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust."
Those bipartisan efforts have been met with crushing resistance from both political parties.
The president's original Supreme Court choice of Harriet Miers alarmed Republicans, while his final nomination of Samuel Alito angered Democrats. His solutions to reform the immigration system alienated traditional conservatives, while his refusal to retreat in Iraq has enraged liberals who have unrealistic expectations about the challenges we face there.
It seems that no matter what Mr. Bush does, he is blamed for everything. He remains despised by the left while continuously disappointing the right.
...
The treatment President Bush has received from this country is nothing less than a disgrace. The attacks launched against him have been cruel and slanderous, proving to the world what little character and resolve we have. The president is not to blame for all these problems. He never lost faith in America or her people, and has tried his hardest to continue leading our nation during a very difficult time.
Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty -- a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.

The press has been a partner in the left's abuse. Anything that Pres Bush has done that is positive does not get reported. The only time he gets press is when they can hold him and his government accountable for something negative. I don't imagine they will not harp on Pres Obama's negatives or if they will even mention them at all.
Jan 20 will bring a new world. Just like when Pres. Clinton was president there were no homeless or in reality there were very few news reports of homeless, however, when Pres Bush (the dad) was in office there were frequent reports of the homeless. Homeless didn't go away, the press just didn't use it to hammer the Clinton administration like they did the First Bush administration. (And the press is objective in all they do)
I really don't imagine that peoples lives will change much during an Obama administration, but the preception will be that it will be better. It will be interesting to see if he (Obama) will be held accountable for his promises. Or if those that voted for him will blame someone else for his failings. There really aren't that many Republicans around to blame.
I do wonder how the City of Chicago still continues to vote in Democrats to their city and county offices while it is now the murder capital of the country. You would think they would like to try something different to see if someone else really could make their life different.
I'm not saying that he didn't truly and sincerely believe he was doing what was best for America, but his presidency has been a failure. The economy is in the toleit...the rest of the world hates us...I won't go on, but suffice to say I'm having trouble thinking of anything he's done that's been unequivocally good.
And while you're right that he hasn't had the most agreeable Congress to deal with, he's not the first president to have had that problem. As they say, "the buck stops" at the president's desk, regardless.
If in eight years Obama has failed just as badly, I would expect you to say nothing less about him.
If they hung effigy's of Obama, what do you think would happen?
If they wore t-shirts that say Kill Obama, what do you think would happen?
There is no humanity when talking about our current President. You care more about dogs than you do than this living breathing man.
There is no earthly way you can blame the President for the housing bust. He brought legislation to house 15 times to regulate the markets and fannie mae and freddie mac.
The house lead by Barney Frank blocked it every time. It never left his committee. Chris Dodd did the same thing in the Senate.
President Bush passed the first medicare reform in 2003. Clinton couldn't that done. He was able to. The fact that you can't name anything positive that he has done, says more about your level of understanding of this president than it does his record.
I believe it's the president's job to lead in such a manner that those he leads will follow him, but obviously this is one where we'll have to agree to disagree.
Just for the record, I do not think that Pres Bush has been correct in all that he has done, I do think he has not be given a fair shake by the media and by most people of this country who just listen to sound bytes.
What concerns me is that the media is in Pres Obama's corner so far, will they report on his mistakes. Could we have another situation like under Pres Kennedy. Where the press knew he was so self medicated that he really didn't know what he was doing, but they didn't report it.
