Best. Weekend. Ever.

From Texas-at-Tech
I was at THE game.  I was at THE game of my lifetime.  The game of the year.  The game of the decade.  The game for the ages!

I had the most fun of my entire life.  It was insane.  It was crazy.  We rolled into Lubbock just after 11:00PM and went to the fraternity lodge for the Sigma Nu halloween party.  We were out late, late, late.  We went to the hotel, went to bed, and were up early.  We did not make it to game day.  I know, bad us, but it just didn't work out.

We went to the mall, we bought new tech gear (oh yeah BLACK OUT!), and then to the tailgates.

I love Texas Tech.  I have so many fond memories of my time there and the beautiful campus and the great people and the great town.  I love Lubbock.  I love the stadium.  I love it all.  I want to move to Lubbock.  If there were jobs I would live in Lubbock.

So the tailgate was packed.  There were people all over campus.  The line for the students to get into the stadium was started on Monday.  So many people were camped out in tents that they called it Raiderville.  They were still there while we tailgated.  We went into the stadium.  The 56,333 full stadium!  We had seats just above the old student section, where we always used to watch.

First play of the game ... a tackle for a safety.  Two points.  So awesome.  We were up 12 - 0 for a time.  And then you know, they got two field goals.

The first half ... WE OWNED THEM.

The noise was so loud you couldn't hear the bands.  Even during half time, the whole stadium was screaming so loud you couldn't hear the band on the field.  The noise was tremendous.  It was awesome. When they wanted it louder, we got louder.  Good plays or bad, we were cheering our voice boxes off.

When Texas tried to stage a comeback, we still stayed focused.  We stayed with them.  I kept shouting "Not in our house!"  It was such an amazing experience.  And we won with what has to be the single greatest touch down in the history of the universe.  They said on the radio today that play will be shown on college football montage videos for the rest of time.

It. Was. The. Greatest. Game. Ever.

When Crabtree took that ball into the end zone the stadium erupted in the biggest bomb of noise I've ever been a part of.  I screamed so loud the entire game that I have lost my voice.  I sound like a frog.  But it was worth every scratchy conversation I will have this week.  When he took that ball into the end zone, we all jumped and screamed and hugged and screamed and screamed and screamed.  It was the single greatest moment ... ever.  The euphoria I feel and how happy I am ... it's only matched by my wedding day.  I kid you not.

The students were so excited they rushed the field 3 times.   And the rest of us were screaming at them to  get off the field so we could finish this thing and win.  When we finally had it over ... the noise was amazing, and the students and fans rushed the fill.  We wanted to, but we couldn't get down the bleachers because of the crush of people.

Texas Tech, my Texas Tech, beat the number one team in the nation.  That's right.  We did what Oklahoma couldn't.  What - so far - no one else could.  That means, by rights, we should be able to beat anyone else out there.  Yes that's right.  ANYONE.

After the game ended, 50,000 people swarmed University Ave and walked down the streets.  Cars parked in the middle of the street and Tech fans jumping out and high fiving and hugging strangers.  It was such an amazing environment, and an experience I will never forget.  I will be telling my children about this game, about me at that game, about how much fun we had and how amazing it was to be in Lubbock that weekend.  So many people drove into town that didn't have tickets, just so they could be a part of it.  It was amazing.

And everyone was friendly.  No fights.  No arguing.  We played with class and our students were rock solid.  The UT fans we sat with were respectful of us and we of them.  It was such a great environment.

Now we have to play OSU and Oklahoma and then finally Baylor.  OSU is at Lubbock, so we stand a very good shot of winning that.  OU will be tougher.  But I have so much confidence.  The team I saw on Saturday could beat anyone.  Our defense rocked the house.  It was the greatest.

I can't say enough good things.  Texas Tech is now ranked #2 in the AP polls, and the BCS standings have not come out yet.  We anticipate we will be #3 behind Penn State and Alabama.  But if we beat OSU next week ... the sky is the limit.

Here are my pictures.  I'll post video soon. Get your guns up, and wreck 'em Tech!

Congrats on your great weekend. Mine was not so great. Big sigh. Once upon a time, we (K-State) had such a game. In 1998 when we beat Nebraska for the first time in 30 years. And again in 2003 when we beat the stuffing out of Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game. That was pretty awesome.

But this year is now clearly all about finding a defense, anywhere, that can slow you guys down.
