Barack Obama is my President

I worry greatly about the future of our nation, but this morning in America there are a few good things to consider.  The first, we didn't have to wait till midnight or later to find out who won.  We knew by the time the polls closed in central who won, and McCain gave a graceful exit and Obama was elected.

The other good news is the Dems didn't get a cloture proof majority.  Senator Dole lost her seat in North Carolina, and that makes me sad.  But she voted for the bail out and she's weak on immigration.  Two things the base really cared about these last few years.  And apparently she ran a really bad campaign.

The house went even further left with 15 gains.  No surprise there.  Pat Buchanan said on Fox News yesterday that he does not think the pendulum will ever swing back right.  Based on his logic, and with anecdotal evidence provided by my state, I can see his point.  But he's kind of xenophobic, to use a word that the article uses.

The worst news ... John Murtha kept his seat.  There are not enough words to explain how sad I feel about this.  In a fair and just world, John Murtha would be tried for treason, hog tied, and whipped by the Marines he has maligned and still not apologized too.  If there was real change in Washington, this man and the others with ethics questions would be impeached.

But another good thing ... no riots, no violence, just a peaceful, beautiful democracy that has voted for what they want.  Another good thing ... the campaign is finally over!!

The Democrats now control all branches of the government.  I know they didn't take critizism of Obama well during these two campaign years, but I hope they understand that now everything that goes wrong (or right) falls at his door.  And he will be made fun of; by the talk show hosts, cartoonists, foreign press ... because he will make missteps.

But I am not going to be as divisive as those on the other side were these last 8 years (or that House Republicans were in the 90s).  Barack Obama is now my President.  My father's commander in chief.  I hope he takes these responsibilities seriously, and realizes that even as someone that does not agree with him, he is beholden to me.  He does not govern over only his supporters.  He answers to me now too.

Congratulations President Elect Obama.  I hope you get some rest and take a few weeks to relax and bask in the glow of your victory, and what it means for the world and for the people of this nation.  God bless you and your family.  I hope the new dog you get is adopted from the SPCA.

Texas remained a conservative bedrock. An anchor so to speak. That will give our economy a shot in the arm and allow us to continue to lead the nation. To show other states the way. It will be up to them to follow us but at least we are giving them a clear path.
Yes sir.

Between now and January, I hope you will find time to read modern American history, and in particular, histories about John F. Kennedy, who you resemble in so many ways. Kennedy's youthful arrogance and ignorance nearly incinerated our planet — a fact of which you seem to be unaware, and that frightens me more than anything else about the prospect of your presidency. Mr. President-elect, you must learn history, so that you can avoid at least its most conspicuous mistakes — like those John Kennedy made in Vienna 1961 when he, as a young and presumably naive president, was tested and found completely wanting.

Robert Novak: No Mandate for Obama

This is hypocritical ...
in a country where it had become accepted practice to attack politicians' families, to mock people's education and intellect, and to believe it was alright to say and do whatever it took to win a vote, regardless of the consequences, be they tangible or moral.
Um ... you mean like saying the father of someone's children is guilty of incest?  Or attacking a woman who was defending her family from a guy who tazered her kid?  Or saying that the child she bore is not hers at all, but her daughter's in a convoluted cover up?  I guess it's only hateful and divisive if it's your candidate getting attacked.  If it's the opposing side, that's fair game.

PS - I still have my Red Raiders, whom I love, to be happy about.  Saturday can't get here fast enough!
