Wreck 'em TECH!

Those of you that know, know that husband and I met at Texas Tech University oh so many moons ago. And one of the key perks of living in Texas (and in truth, part of the reason we were so adamant to get back here) is all of our college buddies that live here, and the Tech games are on TV, and we often make the paper here.

This never happened in Boston. I know. You're shocked.

If you follow college football (and I know you all do) you know that the Top 10 ranked teams this year are heavily, heavily dominated by Big 12 and SEC teams. Well, used to be. Last week, #1 USC fell to Oregon State in a HUGE upset, #8 Alabama beat #3 Georgia proving how underated they really were, and #4 Florida fell to unranked Mississippi. #2 Oklahoma beat #25 TCU. Which, I'm sorry dear father-in-law and dear friends of that beloved school ... that wasn't that big a deal.

What is a big deal, is that last week Texas Tech was ranked #10 in the overall rankings. Amazing! Last Saturday Tech had a by (thank goodness) and because of the parity that ripped through the top 10 last week, Tech is now ranked - wait for it - #7 by the AP.

I know what you're wondering. How did this happen! Well, we have two heisman contendors this year. Graham Harrell is the quarterback of coach Mike Leach's dreams. Meaning, Graham was offered UT, and he choose to go to Tech because he knew Leach would let him throw the ball and do pretty much whatever he wanted. Which is true of Tech's approach to offense.

And Michael Crabtree. Dear old Crabtree. He's the wide reciever that I'm really not sure how he ended up at Tech. His career stats are 163 receptions, 2,419 yards (wow) and - count 'em - 28 touch downs.

HE'S A SOPHOMORE.

The kids a phenom. And next year he will go pro without finishing his education. Which is a shame. For Tech football! (kidding. Sort of.)

This weekend, #7 Texas Tech (I love love love saying that) is taking on unranked Kansas State in a conference match up. We're going to try for the Big 12 south this year, but one big massive road block stands in our way. #1 OU. Stupid OU.

Either way. This year I'm attending the Tech / UT game for sure, traveling to Lubbock on Halloween to watch us slaughter Texas in a rivalry game. If we win we're going to go to OU. We'll have to mortgage the house to get tickets (kidding. sort of) but it will be a legendary game if we get there.

We're the #1 ranked passing offense in all of college football. And we're the #3 offense overall. We may not win on defense, but other teams will have to score at least 50 points to get close. 'Cause we'll put 70.

My prediction for Saturday ... Tech by 2 TD. And Harrell with throw for like, 400 yards. The games on ABC at 2:30 CST if you're interested.
