Notes from All Over

How much does it cost to buy an election?  $600M.  Well, $600M plus an elitist media that's so deeply tied to your cause that they hammer the opposition into oblivion.  Campbell Brown over at CNN comments on the Obama hypocrisy that is public financing.  Why is she writing this story now?  Or more correctly, why are editors at CNN letting this story show up now?  Because even the press have taken notice of how unbalanced things have gotten.

But, it's too late.

The Washington Post has a story today about Obama accepting untraceable donations.  A story that the blogs have been talking about for months. The article goes into detail about how pre-paid credit cards allow anyone from foreign nationals, to government contractors, or people who have already exceeded their donations limits, to continue donating anonymously.  I don't understand this line:

When asked whether the campaign takes steps to verify whether a donor's name matches the name on the credit card used to make a payment, Obama's campaign replied in an e-mail: "Name-matching is not a standard check conducted or made available in the credit card processing industry. We believe Visa and MasterCard do not even have the ability to do this.

Really?  Cause if I put in the "name on credit card field" Daffy Duck ... it's going to pop up and say that doesn't match records.  I know this is true of purchasing air fare.  Not sure for other e-commerce.

Either way.  The internet raises a lot of issues about campaign donations.  On the one hand, I pay just about every bill I have online.  And when I donate to charity, I do it online.  So I think the easy convenience of online contributions is incredibly important.  I just wish that the press had actually done some reporting on where these contributions were coming from prior to, oh the last week of the election.  Because it would have forced the Obama campaign to be more on top of it.  But whatever.

Lone Star Times has a good article about why Obama is winning (among other unsundry things).  I think it is important to remember just how angry people are at the current administration and Republican's in general.  And anger is a powerful motivator.  And as he says, they really, really hate us.

And mom had a good point about all those bad voter registrations that are being submitted via ACORN.  They may not lead to actual votes cast, but they do skew polling data.  So if a whole bunch of new registrations are submitted for Democrats, that could be showing up in the polls.

I have a new rising concern.  Even more than I am afraid of Obama winning, I am afraid of him losing.  I don't really think anyone will resort to violence.  But I am afraid of 4 more agonizing years of press hatred and public animosity.

And does anyone else feel like we're not hearing about real news anymore?  It's all the election all the time.  I understand it ... but I'm beginning to wonder what's happening in the world while we decide this thing.  A quick search shows that Congo soldiers, civilians flee as rebels close on city, there are tens of thousands of people without homes seeking refugee status.

In Somalia, Al Qaeda is being blamed for suicide bombings that have killed 25 people.  And an earthquake in Pakistan has left 150 dead.  Iraq has sent us a revised Security Pact with what they want changed.  They want the U.S. Troops to remain for 3 years after the expiration of the U.N. mandate in December.  Without this pact, we would leave as of Dec 31st.  And today there was a transfer ceremony as U.S. Military handed over security control of Wasit to Iraqi authorities.

There's also this ... if you remember Sunday the US attached a Syrian village.  This post over at LA Times wonders alloud if Syria didn't secretly "green light" the attack while publically denouncing it, blaming everything on a lame duck administration, with the intention of mending fences with the new administration come January 09.  Huh.  Or maybe they said go ahead, with the intention of coercing us to give them money.  Like we have any.

I heard on the radio that New Jersey and New York want to be added to the states in line for government hand outs.  Fabulous.  And here in Dallas Bell Helicopter is cutting 500 jobs and the political blog at DMN has this really funny post (watch the Colbert video).  Texas is a swing state?

New article from ESPN on Texas Tech.  Vegas has Texas by 4 points.  Remember me in your prayers this weekend as I trek out to Lubbock and deal with the crazy West Texas football crowd as I fight for a spot on College Game Day!

I think you're right about why we're going to lose this election. The anger Americans feel over the mess of the past eight years and the hatred toward Republicans for ruining the economy and causing a war (or so they say) is overflowing. It's enough to plop Obama squarely in the presidency even if he wasn't escorted by the liberal illuminati media who keep him well-curtained in secrecy. I keep on hearing, "Republicans had their chance."
